It seems like all the sources are saying "there's no reason to believe that the current vaccine won't work", which is a lot less confident than "the vaccine will work on the new strain".
I think we can maintain some optimism. If it's confirmed that the vaccine isn't effective on the new strain, then we can panic.

The ****** next door to me all (5 of them) have it. A neighbour was buried on Wednesday. It seems worse than it has ever been previously.

In any case, you're not alone. I think most major gov't facing this new wave (3rd wave now?) have gone back to lockdown procedures similar to March. Hard to think we're only 2 months away from a year of this stuff.

Multiple members of parliament, staffers etc going on vacations to Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, etc.
This one MPP even posted a set of pre-recorded "greetings" from his home to his social media feed while he was actually in the Caribbean during Xmas.
"Rules for thee and rules for Me", I guess. It's stuff like this that makes people not follow rules, since the people who are making them aren't following them either.

It makes me think. Why not have a wealth tax and then use that tax to give most of non-rich in this country a periodic check, sort of like the stimulus money now? It could be a form of universal basic income. It would directly help most people, it could be simple with no hoops to go through or screwing around with deductions or income credits, and I think the majority of people would like it. It would just plain get people money that need it, and almost all of it would just go back into the economy buying stuff or paying off debt anyhow instead of it being horded by the nations richest people.
