Convicted criminal President Donald Trump's Legacy

Theopolis Q. Hossenffer

I am in America, not of it.
So here I sit staring at the computer wondering how in the world this will all turn out. As I sit here I think of how other groups have handled schisms. Then it comes to me The Catholic Church! Pope Benedict was being an old goat, pissing off the young with the money by wanting to go back to the good old days of a smaller less rich, less powerful church so to stick with the old ways. Their solution, He retires and a younger more hip guy comes along as the real Pope Benedict becomes TADA: Pope Emeritus. He "retires" and Pope Frances comes on stage. We could do the same thing here. The Donald could become "President Emeritus" , go down to Mar-a-Lago and sit and stew. Sell MAGA stuff to true believers. His Trumpista helpers can pilgrimage to him and they can commiserate about "The Big Steal". His followers can gather around the bonfire at Mar-a Lago and dance and drink and worship. All watched carefully at a distance by the Secret Service there to protect The Donald and his family.
Meanwhile back in The United States the rest of us could get back following the law, doing as President Biden suggests and in general start to become a real nation again.

I don't think that will work, because I don't think trump and his enablers can be allowed to just get away with this. As weak as it was, this was open sedition, and they're already threatening more to come on the 20th. trump has created an enemy force within the US and it has to be dealt with. If it is not, a whole bunch of Americans who watched what happened this week will be alienated and disenchanted, and with a government that refuses to impose justice on their behalf will have no reason not to create a militant faction of their own.

Piling on here, but making people truly believe this:

“This is not America,” a woman said to a small group, her voice shaking. She was crying, hysterical. “They’re shooting at us. They’re supposed to shoot BLM, but they’re shooting the patriots.” A man, possibly her husband, comforted her: “Don’t worry, honey. We showed them today. We showed them what we’re all about.”

Yes, they did show what they were all about.

Where is georges by the way?

Right. Where the heck is Georges? I miss that guy.

I'm not sure if he remembers this but it's all for laughs now but one of my first encounters with him was when he temp banned me. I was so over the top lusty with filthy talk about Asian ladies that I got pinched for racism. The second time was a warning about posting too much Satanic stuffs. That seems like years ago and he's been a polite gentleman with me. I'd like to think I've also been a nice guy in return.

Focus on the topic of the threads. Moderators have private lifes, too, but we do not discuss them with other members

On topic:

This is what we have seen already happening with Senator Lindsey Graham and Mitt Romney. Any Republican that stands up against Trump and his mob has to face rising anger and, I fear, attacks, too

I just said to the missus last night that EVERY congressperson needs a security detail from now until the threat from trump cultists is gone. Imagine if that mob had got hold of AOC or Pelosi or Omar. There's zero chance they wouldn't have taken it all the way.

Ben Sasse skewers Quackerism and the opines on the future of the Republican Party:
https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/a...y-theories-will-doom-republican-party/617707/

As for Quack: "Support Donald Trump and you are not merely participating in a mundane political process—that’s boring. Rather, you are waging war on a global sex-trafficking conspiracy!"

How to proceed forward:
  • "First, Republicans must repudiate the nonsense that has set our party on fire."
  • "Second, the party has to rebuild itself. It must offer a genuine answer to the frustrations of the past decade. ... Republicans have not figured out how to address Americans’ anger about community erosion, massive dislocations in the labor force, or Big Tech’s historically unprecedented role in governing de facto public squares."
It is not a great look for Republicans to be compared with supporters of Saddam Hussein, the KKK, or Nazis.

We have been silent too long about the Heroes of the Insurrection, that have assisted their Commander-in-Chief to motivate their followers to stand up and do the right thing:

Tried to watch, had to stop and gag too many times.
True. That's a garbage propaganda post by Fox News and all the right wing wing nuts (aka conservatives.) Surprised that anyone would believe any of this. They should all be tried for sedition and not be allowed to be seated in Congress during the next session. These individuals: Hawley, Graham, Cruz, Johnson, et al. Force them to resign their posts. Make the governor of each of their states choose successors.

The 'Patriot' Party will be full of peaceful, flag-loving, gun-toting citizens as evidenced on Jan 6, 2021:

This could get interesting. How would the threat of a new party impact a potential impeachment? The 2024 Republican hopefuls could eliminate their most feared opponent by impeaching Trump and then voting to disqualify him from holding a future office. He would take voters and some low-level minions with him, but would any Republican leaders follow him?
