Not really, because while we could both end the world with nuclear weapons and have mutually assured destruction the US out of all nations would probably be the one lest likely to use them when it's on the losing side out of spite or so nobody ends up with anything. That's because we don't both don't want to be the person that is responsible for starting initiating the nuclear war and we like to think we're the good guys, and because are politicians are generally wussy when it would come to something like that. Conventional missiles our subs could launch won't make that much of a difference. We would probably have to get to the point of the US either being taken over or about to lose everything before we will launch first.

Not speaking for Brat, just weighing in. Our sub ***** (Trident and otherwise) would wreak havoc on the Chinese navy and selected land targets quite handily. Conventional missles will not win the war for us by themselves, but taking out specific targets, like these carrier-killer missles, would probably be right up their alley. Not to mention shore facilities, naval yards and fuel depots.
I'd like to reiterate that this article/development is nothing more than a scare tactic designed to make us want to react to a threat that will never be realized. As we speak, China is feeling the benefit of switching to a capitilist economic model and I'm sure they are loving the millions of tourist dollars which have been flowing in over the past few years. Hell, they even opened up the Forbidden City in Beijing to entice the still-reluctant. All my life I have been skeptical that nukes will ever be employed, in war, in my lifetime. I'm just as skeptical that we will get into a war with China in the rest of my lifetime. There was no war with Russia, Cuba, East Germany etc. Why should we worry about China?
This sounds just like the weapon systems that would ditch negotiations back in the good ol' days of the Cold War.
China is more interested being a regional power through it's littoral fleet and not a deep water navy. However this could a way of projecting power. Either way I'm sure we're going to develop a counter measure to this missile.

It would never happen. China has no deep water Navy and Cuba only has a fleet of '57 Chevys converted for refugee use.

I think the one thing that is keeping all the major nations from war is economics. We are all so interdependent on each other. War between the US and China would greatly affect both countries financially. Same with Russia and all the other major nations in the world.

Can we really be so certain though? Maybe they're just trying to lull us into a false sense of security. And then while we're fast ******, they'll creep into our bedrooms and steal our precious bodily fluids! At the very least, they could introduce a foreign substance into our precious bodily fluids without our knowledge. I think a lot about my precious bodily fluids these days. My precious bodily fluids are, well... precious to me! And with this news that Asian-Americans are all working for the Chinese commies, I'm going to stop eating Chinese food. Right after this evening's round of Sesame Chicken (extra spicy!), I'm done for good... or until my birthday.
