Capitalism: A Love Story

Well those people are idiots! He is not spitting on the country & establishment, but attacking those things he thinks are wrong with his country.
Should someone ignore the flaws & failings of their own country, or are they such a passionate supporter of the ideal, the very best that their country aspires to, that they what to highlight & help to eradicate the flaws of their country?

Again, pointing out "flaws" with modern society is easy. It's not like what he's doing is rocket science or brain surgery. The correct question is "What can be done?" In a lot of cases, nothing. Trying to "fix" society usually causes more harm than the original problem, at least at the macro level. Real change comes from individuals, reflected in the way they live their lives and the choices they make.

He's not a true documentarian. His movies always have a subjective view and are edited to suit his perspective.
He used to be more neutral. He was an expert as catching people off-balance, and showing things out-of-context. Once he decided to take sides, then that was that.

His "reporting" in Fahrenheit 911 was pathetic. He could have done a hell of a lot better job making his points. Instead, he made it about all sorts of things -- from the election to quoting soldiers completely out-of-context, so much so they were really pissed off when they were shown as being aligned with Moore's views. Moore also pries on people's ignorance of civics, such as law enforcement and federal v. state funding. If I was going to do a move on 9/11, I could have made so many points aligned with Moore's views so much better and with so much more objectivity than he did. Especially considering the intelligence, timeline and other details.

Instead, he looked like he was stretching, especially if you knew the full stories of the items he used, the people he interviewed, etc... It was so easy to discredit, and that was his undoing.

I'd never pay admission to see anything he's ever done and I hope more people do the same.
I liked it when he didn't take political stands myself and showed multiple sides with people out-of-context. But once he started showing only one side out-of-context, then it became some extremely "creative" journalism. I stopped listening when he started manufacturing the very news articles he'd reference.

I wonder why its easy? Because there are so many fucking flaws!!

So, just do nothing then? How ridiculous!

By that logic we would still be countrymen mrtrebus, you are british I beleive?
Don't like the way govt or society works, forget it trying to do anything will just make it worse?

The illusion of control and believing that government can "fix" everything is what's ridiculous ;)

Exactly. The quality of maintenance or repair will be based upon the govts ability or willingness to sustain it.

No thanks

Good point. I mean, look at California as an example. In one generation, it went from the Land of Milk and Honey to bankrupt. They serve as a warning for the rest of the US. As Margaret Thatcher once pointed out, "The problem with socialism is that eventually, you run out of other people's money."

Frank Lloyd Wright said it best about California: Tip the world over on its side and everything loose will land in Los Angeles.

Of course, if you know his history, it seems odd. However, the quote is quite fitting nonetheless!

This is what happens when naive people voted for a so called "fix it all" unexperienced wizzard that has very poor experience in politics and who hasn't done any good, nor any improvement has been seen and confirmed when he was the senator of his own state. Look at how economy of the US is in the shitter (and has gone worse) since Obama is president and no improvements. Some people wonder why other people hate the Obama's administration, it is just a blend copy of the Clinton administration but with bigger douchebags and ass holes like Nancy Pelosi, Billary, Emmanuel Rahm, Sotomayor and other bunch of incompetent idiots.
One must be a real lazy parasite to think that others will pay for him free healthcare or/and social security. The system where people pay for others will not work in USA, you can be sure of it. France and Sweden did a lot of social assisting and it caused them debts, now social security and healthcare are getting privatized because some unwilling to work and lazy parasite benefitted of this social assisting system too fucking much.
I already know what will be daddy o's fanboys answer "Bush fucked up our country". Obama fucked it more, deal with it. The so called change, you have it backwards and worse.

Fucking Thatcher! She also said "There is no such thing as society". Sums up a certain point of view I suppose.

The US hasn't been capitalist for a long time ...

The US hasn't been capitalist for a long time. That ended by the '70s. The sooner people wake up to that, the sooner they will understand the problem.

Heck, most of the insurance regulations started in the '60s. They completely hosed private healthcare altogether. It was no longer free market, but forced monopoly and, in some cases, extortion (at the hands of your employer).

Capitalism: A Love Story -- by Michael Moore

"Capitalism is evil," says new Michael Moore film (Reuters)

VENICE (Reuters) - Capitalism is evil. That is the conclusion U.S. documentary maker Michael Moore comes to in his latest movie "Capitalism: A Love Story," which premieres at the Venice film festival Sunday.

Blending his trademark humor with tragic individual stories, archive footage and publicity stunts, the 55-year-old launches an all out attack on the capitalist system, arguing that it benefits the rich and condemns millions to poverty.

"Capitalism is an evil, and you cannot regulate evil," the two-hour movie concludes.

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story -- by Michael Moore

I wondered what the real-life Peter Griffin was up to these days...

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story -- by Michael Moore

Though there may be some useful info in there, kinda of ironic that the man is going to make millions attacking capitalism...is he donating all his profits to some organization that serves the greater good??

Re: Capitalism: A Love Story -- by Michael Moore

:2 cents:
But yet, look what its done for him.

Thus far, that's the dumbest, lamest "argument" against him and/or his films (although I don't doubt that the right-wingers could possibly conjure up something dumber - I just haven't heard it yet). As though there's a separate socialist economy operating in the US, in which Moore could live and work if he wished. (To make it crystal clear for you, people can critique the socioeconomic system of the U.S. (and the world, for that matter) and still prefer the country they live in and/or have a need/reason to stay in it - the old "love it or leave it" line is beyond dumb, and I won't address it here; it's not worth my time)

Michael must need more money.

If you're saying what meesterperfect was saying, then see above...

Ok, I'm off to the original thread for this film...
