BP says "virtually all" oil to be captured. What do you think?

A top BP executive says the company expects to be capturing virtually all the oil leaking from the Gulf floor by early next week.

Chief operating officer Doug Suttles told The Associated Press on Tuesday in Gulf Shores, Ala., that the flow should decrease "to a relative trickle" by Monday or Tuesday.

President Barack Obama plans to visit the region the same days.

Suttles says a second pumping ship should improve the process. And he says a new containment cap being built will seal better and reduce leakage.

He says BP believes the oil now washing up on the coast was spilled soon after a rig exploded about 50 days ago and sank.

Suttles says oil will probably continue to wash up for about the same period after the well fully shuts down.

A relief well expected to stop the flow is expected to be done in August.

I call bullshit until it actually happens.

I think it will be captured in this giant basin they are calling the Gulf of Mexico...at least they will capture the stuff that the gulf stream and any stray hurricane doesn't take out. But I am sure that will be no biggie.

BP outwardly try to compose themselves as environmentally concious do gooders earnestly trying to fix the problem and minimise the impact on the eco system.

Sad story is that despite their bullshit PR, how we actually percieve them is a tyrannical oil firm more concerned with the money they are losing daily and how much of the precious black ooze they can salvage. What is really an ecological disaster, they dismissed as a drop in the ocean, problem being its a fucking massive ocean and that "drop" has done alot of damage.

Its like saying a nuke dropped on london has just freed up parking spaces for everyone else.

Crock of shit. They've been downplaying this whole thing and acting like its under control when it clearly isn't. Sad to the max.

Dear BP,

You've had a major, negative impact on the environment for the next century at least. Saying you're going to capture all the oil doesn't make it so. You're still rotten, filthy bastards. Everyone will hate you forever, please cease to be a company, and be forced to liquidate every thing you, your board members, and your major stock holders have, and give it to the people cleaning up your mess.

Sincerely,
the earth.

bullshit. there's still oil on the beaches in Alaska because of the Exxon Valdez. this is going to be a problem for decades to come and the best part is, i bet not a single executive at BP will lose their job because of it.

Big Oil is now what Big Tobacco was in the '80s.

if only this BP company was based in a communist country they would all be dead right now and we could actually get started on this mess. Instead they release commercials about "how they care" or some BS.

off shore drilling is retarded!

Give them the benefit of the doubt - no one ever thought the U.S. would have government healthcare, but it's happening - give them a chance.

I dunno...do the BP stations have cappuccino??

Yes. Though Speedway has the Speedy Awards Card! You get points for buying stuff and then get free stuff!!! BP only gives you oil spills with no Rewards Card!

Meh! The oil spill has many benefits.

What have the pelicans ever done for us? All they do each day is eat our fish. Let those thieves die. I don't care.

The pasty texture of the water (or what's left of it) significantly slows down rafts with Cuban refugees. The Coast Guard is no longer forced to chase them in risky maneuvers. They just have to dip them for two minutes. Problem solved.

Scooping oil directly from the Gulf shore makes the US not only independent of pricey imports from rogue countries (Vuvuzela, Iran, Canada). It also makes transportation nearly redundant. That'll cut the US's record on carbon emissions drastically. Al Gore must be proud.

The oil leak is a win-win situation for all of us! I nominate BP for the Nobel Peace Prize 2011.

I appreciate that you included Canada as a "rogue country." effing right. Fucking Canadians and their "back-bacon." Though it is delicious.
