BP Makes "Giant" Oil Find in Gulf of Mexico

gas prices aren't bad here in america.
look how good we have it

It's not only likely that the US produces in pct. terms more of it's own crude (over 40%) and refines more of it's own gasoline but the majority of the crude we use comes from North America.

Also compare that though to how many miles Americans drive per year relative to the other countries cited and there in lies the rub.

The American economy couldn't survive at those prices as we've seen what a high $4 price point has done to our economy.

(And to think, a year ago today Oil was at $120/130

Damage limitation?? Actually, maybe. :ponder:

Are you sure about that?? That doesn't sound right....It certainly was up there...(actually peaked at $146) but I though oil was considerably lower during the POTUS campaign.

^^Distinctly remember it being that high (higher actually)...I should have said 'approx. a year ago'....July/Aug...I am being pedantic ;)

Well, anyhow, it was fucking high! LOL.

The article makes no mention of how long before BP could bring this oil "to market"? It sounds like it's not going to make a difference for another 10 years or so?

So, basically, this is not a *promising* development unless you own BP stock.

With all the Hurricane activity in the recent years in the Gulf of Mexico, the likelyhood of environmental catastrophe due to a Cat 5 Hurricane seems likely...

I'm not willing to ruin the best beaches in America for gas.

The article says it should come on line in the second half of the next decade. Look for around 2015.

Oh wow, so does this mean that 10 years from now gasoline might be 3 cents cheaper than it might otherwise be at that time because of this? Humanity can rejoice now.
