And yet who's fault would that be?

The states? Or the union that failed them?

It's easy to say the American Civil War was about slavery.
It's easy to chuck up Andrew Johnson as the worst President in US history.

Looking at the details of why and how is far, far more difficult, and thought provoking.
In fact, if people looked at those details, it would have explained why the abolishment of slavery really didn't solve a lot of issues.

i really dont see what that has to do with what i wrote or what i responded to prof.
just saying we better all start getting along, move forward or else we're fucked.
if not for us then do it for the children, the future.

I never really understood the whole "White Guilt" thing. Who the hell came up with that anyway? And what is it really about?

Probably some white liberal douchehat (secretly wishing they were black) thought up white guilt while sitting in a coffee house smoking clove cigarettes.

Or some white lib woman passing out flyers for the Black Panther Party who was "revolting" against her well to do parents who provided her with everything she needed for a stable and fruitful life.

This whole issue is ridiculous IMHO... Why not teach just plain ol' HISTORY? Why did we start separating out people because of skin color in the first place?

Because the portrayal of history has bias. You have heard of the lies in our history books. It was a problem up to this new millennium, when schools are finally tossing out those books. Being critical about history is encouraged today. "Did it really happen this way? Your homework assignment for tonight is to find apposing viewpoints."
To this day, there is still not an accurate portrayal of "The Alamo" in movies. Mexicans always being shown as savage murderers, yet it was Texas citizens that were being the douche-bags.

There is also no where near enough time in a semester, so the classes can be separated and made available for anyone interested.

Agreed. This shit has been going on since Ancient Egypt. There is no Egyptian account of the book of Exodus, but the Jews swear up and down that it happened. Humans, all full of shit. And no, I am not just talking about what happens after Taco Hour at the buffet.

I bit off topic but we have the same problem over here in the UK. All they talk about in terms of the Empire is how we imported tea and exported cricket etc, nothing about butchering people and treating them like animals or even the very large role the British Empire had in the slave trade as well as all the resorces that were stolen. So many of todays hotspots such as Northern Ireland, Israel, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Kashmir to name a few are a result of the British policy of divide and conquer (creating countries with controversial borders), the modern British government or people are in no way to blame but the way the British Empire shaped the world of today should not be kept a secret and should be openly taught if only to never repeat the mistakes of the past.

No, it was the Mexican Army (what, around 6000) who were Degueo level douchebags, and the Texicans who were (a few hundred) the good guys and true heroes...something a historical "sniper" like yourself doesn't get.
Goliad to San Jacinto...outnumbered Texicans were beaten and executed after capture (Goliad), but were not defeated. And eventually they won the war for Independence...well documented and all, but a LaRaza Reconquista like yourself doesn't care for facts; just bitching about some ass-kickin' Mexico got along the way to third world status.

No, you didn't. I meant to quote mushroomhunting's post and somehow quoted your post which had nothing to do with my reply. Oooops!
Sorry, made an error. Sometimes these things happen.:dunno:

You mean Andrew Jackson? :dunno:
You know who Andrew Johnson is, correct?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Johnson

He is arguably the greatest president in US history. :hatsoff:
Depends on your viewpoint. I will argue many things in his favor, but the Trail of Tears is not exactly our highlight as Americans.

Ugh, I quoted you, and not what you were responding to. Sorry about that, here's the order (I mean to quote Bearded_Menance in my response) ...
It will certainly be interesting to see where America goes in the next 20 years. Will we finally learn to get along and put aside the childish bull shit or will we solidify our place as the second Roman Empire and collapse into various loosley affiliated territories and states? Whatever the outcome, I hope to be watching from some place far away.
thats been my point in so many threads, basically.

Yes, but not nearly as much as the man on the $20. Trail of Tears was both a vile act and one that doubled the size of our country all those years ago. Jackson was a ruthless leader for sure and many died because of this philosophy, but he is a legend. Truly a fascinating figure.

lol. The location on your profile (Texas) only goes to show how Historical bias presents itself. psst! The Alamo was about slavery. Your "heroes" were slave traders, whom upon declaring independence, declared slavery legal (which Mexico had abolished).

anyway. heres a link to msnbc video

I'll bet your monitor has dried spit all over it...I can imagine you yelling at the screen...
Slave traders? Really? None of them ...say...owned slaves maybe? Or didn't have any 'cause only people with money could afford slaves, don'cha know?
They were all like the Amazon.com of the Territories and sold slaves from Texas...wonder who they sold them to? Not a lota population with cash, outside the Texicans.
Please hurry with some links showing all my heroes were slave traders!
Provide some links to that claim, would ya?

If you are a fan of Andrew Jackson, then you must ascribe to the philosophy of a strong federal government whose power overshadows states' rights. That's what the entire battle with Calhoun and the others represented during his administration. The conflict was ultimately manifested and resolved once and for all in a little altercation several decades later known as the Civil War. Everyone usually thinks the war was about the slavery issue. Not true....at least at the onset of the war. It was the culmination of the battle for states' rights versus the authority of the federal government.

Interesting take from someone whom I would perceive to be primarily from the right-hand side of the aisle who would typically favor smaller government and less federal intervention in state affairs (tea-party anyone??).

if the border was sealed and a military presence there... this thread probibly wouldn't exist. And before one would say thats simply wrong, it's standard operating procedure around the world.
