This new NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows ghostly green filaments, lying within galaxy 2MASX J22014163+1151237. This filament was illuminated by a blast of radiation from a quasar — a very luminous and compact region that surrounds the supermassive black hole at the centre of its host galaxy.

Its bright green hue is a result of ionised oxygen, which glows brightly at green wavelengths.

Rane did you happen to see the article regarding: Something huge smashed into Uranus? That was the title. I couldn't tell if it was a joke, serious, if it just happened or long time ago... title was really misleading and somebody had fun :1orglaugh

:1orglaugh Yeah I saw that and for a second I wasn't sure either. I thought it might be something like that "Chuck Tingles - Space Raptor Butt Invasion" thing that happened awhile back.

Astronomers just found 12 more moons around Jupiter, and one is really weird. While 11 orbit in the same direction as their nearest neighbors, one doesn’t, potentially putting it on a fatal collision course.

The Milky Way’s big ******

At first glance, it resembles our Milky Way albeit larger, measuring more than 200 000 light-years across compared to 100 000 light-year diameter for our home galaxy.

NGC 6744 is similar to our home galaxy in more ways than one. Like the Milky Way, NGC 6744 has a prominent central region packed with old yellow stars. Moving away from the galactic core, one can see parts of the dusty spiral arms painted in shades of pink and blue; while the blue sites are full of young star clusters, the pink ones are regions of active star formation, indicating that the galaxy is still very lively.
