Jupiter and Saturn to appear closest in night sky in hundreds of years

On Sunday night, December 13, countless meteors will shoot across the sky as space particles burn up in our atmosphere and meet a fiery end. Most meteor showers occur when Earth slams into debris left behind by a comet.

Space station detectors found the source of weird ‘blue jet’ lightning

[/Blue jets zip upward from thunderclouds into the stratosphere, reaching altitudes up to about 50 kilometers in less than a second. Whereas ordinary lightning excites a medley of gases in the lower atmosphere to glow white, blue jets excite mostly stratospheric nitrogen to create their signature blue hue.

I've always figured in a universe that is infinite, and always expanding, there has got to be other life forms out there. You would have to be pretty blind to not believe something like that. But I never figured it would be in our own backyard. I realize that our galaxy is huge, but nothing compared to the whole vastness of space. Lets just hope if they vist us, they have more patience with stupidity, and arrogance then we do.

There are probably millions of M-Class planets in our galaxy that can support life or where life has already spawned, many with sentient species, and many species with the tech. to travel to other star systems.
The probable reason they haven't contacted us yet is something like the Prime Directive from Star Trek.

I disagree. I think they haven't made contact yet, because the human race is a violent, intolerable group of fuck wits, and they're probably afraid it might wear off on them.

The Prime Directive prohibits contact with primitive species like us.

Oh, sorry. I'm not much of a sy-fy person. I go for war and mafia movies. In fact, I have never seen any of the Star Trek movies, and only the first 3 Star Wars movies.

I guess you basically said what I said, only with a little more decorum, and civility.

I would love to have my name under a picture like that, right square in the middle of the National Geographic.

My second choice for a career path involved spreading baby oil on Hustler, and Club models.

Ahh, to be 15 again.

I like to read sci-fi and real science, over the years I have come to believe the theory that aliens are responsible for creating human life.
Aliens are responsible for the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs so mammals could evolve into the dominant species.
Aliens placed the moon in Earth's orbit to accelerate evolution, and as the first step for us to learn to live on hostile alien planets.
Aliens prepared Mars so humans could learn to terraform planets.
Aliens made the planets in the Alpha Centauri system similar to Mars so our first colony in interstellar space would be easier.
All these things will make it easier for humans to be an interstellar species.
Then in a few centuries or millennia, once humans have become a truly sentient civilization, the aliens will come and welcome us to the Galactic community.

Without the Moon, Would There Be Life on Earth?

But then who made the Aliens?

I had to go back a few pages, but in the past couple of weeks, some amazing things have been getting posted, since they've launched this new telescope.

I screwed up a couple of days ago. There was a post about a black hole that was found, and audio of it, recorded. I swear it sounded just like it came from the middle of Pink Floyd "Echoes".
