Hoag's Object. A Strange Ring Galaxy

This image, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in July 2001, reveals unprecedented details of Hoag's Object and may yield a better understanding. Hoag's Object spans about 100,000 light years and lies about 600 million light years away toward the constellation of the Snake (Serpens). Coincidentally, visible in the gap (at about one o'clock) is yet another ring galaxy that likely lies far in the distance.

Six Planets from Yosemite : The five naked-eye planets, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, have been seen since ancient times to wander the night skies of planet Earth. So it could be remarkable that on this night, standing at the side of a clear, calm lake, six planets can be seen with the unaided eye. Have a look.

Hate to hear that.

Usually when something awesome like that happens it is always cloudy or whatever. Not this one. It was gorgeous. I caught it at regular moon fingernail size and rest bloodmoon. Beautiful.

The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way and hosts the remnant of a Type Ia supernova explosion, named N103B.

Ever been to a planetarium? It's been a while, but the one on the campus of my university is one of the best in the state.
