Bears Hall of Famer Hampton refuses White House invite

I remember after the White Sox won the World Series, manager Ozzie Guillen refused an invitation to the White House ceremony (when Bush was president). He blew it off (as well as blowing off the team) to go on vacation instead. That, too, was a dick move. I'm glad he left for the Florida Marlins. Good riddance to him. He refused to even learn to speak intelligible English, despite living here for decades and doing countless press conferences. He sounds like a sleepwalker with a mouth full of goo.

Gawd Damn.... that was awesome! :rofl2:

I don't blame Hampton. Going to the White House to meet Barrack Hussein Obama 25 years after the fact is no compensation whatsoever for missing out on a chance to meet Ronald Reagan (the greatest President since Abraham Lincoln) back when they actually won the championship.

This is a case of being a day late and about fourteen trillion dollars short.

That statement would be more accurate if you replaced "the greatest President since Abraham Lincoln" with "the most overrated president in history".

The man is well within his right to choose not to go. It was 25 freakin' years ago, as he was quoted in the story, "Let it go." Also, like all of these types of visits the only true purpose of them is to score points politically and if you do not happen to agree with the guy in running the show, why should you help him out.

As far as others comments, how is Walter Payton honored by visiting the White House? You want to honor Walter Payton, set up a scholarship or some other type of endowment in his name and someone can truly benefit from it.

Saying he would have done it if McCain was in office, we will never know. Would McCain invite a championship team to visit the White House 25 years after the fact we will never know that as well.

NASCAR drivers don't just race on Sundays. During the week there are visits with those crazy guys who pay their bills called sponsors. A few of them gets butt-hurt by you cancelling a visit and those checks may start to disappear. Not to meantion the racing related stuff they have going on. If Obama's people had a clue, they would have arranged this during the off-season when schedules can be more easily arranged.

Some have said that he should go out of respect for the office, to which I disagree. The office of President of the United States is a job, just like any other job. I wouldn't change my schedule for the mayor or the governor of my city or state, so why would do it for the President of the United States. The fact that some people hold these types of positions in such reverence is why so many of the people that hold those jobs believe that they can do what they please with impunity.

I have zero respect for Obama (in my view, only Buchanan and Pierce were worse as president) but if invited I'd go to get a true inside look at the place and to apply as much subtle ridicule to the incumbent himself (as distinguished from the office) as possible.

Mo-ron for attempting to convert the discussion into what you 'must' do as opposed to the grown up discussion centering around whether some dope ought to play politics when a president extends an opportunity to do something extremely rare...visit the WH upon invitation from a US President.

Now if you still see that as something to balk at because you think the rules of your neighborhood apply or that you would love to use the opportunity to play a Gump...then I say either that person possesses the mind of a fucking 11 y.o. or they have moronic tendencies.

No one claimed you're breaking a law to turn away the invitation even though it may be seen as a criminal level of stupidity. No one claimed you aren't free to turn down invitations in the US...only someone doing their best impression of a moron would assert that in the midst of this discussion.

So I'm not calling you a moron. Just that you may be engaging in a virtuoso performance at convincing me you are one.

You were the one bad mouthing the guy because he didn't want to go.
I'm just saying that's his right and I don't blame him.

The ass should at least attend if for no other reason than to honor his fallen teammate in the late, great Walter Payton

Obama shouldn't be using or tax money for such fucking nonsense in the first place.

oh puh-lease!

this has been going on for decades

now that obama is in office you wanna call out how much of a waste of money it is?

nice try pal

but maybe you should direct that vitrol to the ass who started it in the first place

I don't blame him. Also, Obama is a Bears fan that's why he invited them. Now what about the teams before or after the Bears, who didn't go to the White House?

When the president of the US invites you under any circumstances to the people's house and you (for whatever pettyism) snub it...you're instantly a fucking 'tard-loser no matter who you are or from what side of the political spectrum you germinate.

For those of you saying it's a non story, duh. Of course we'll all live, continue to whack to porn and bitch about politics on a porn board. () But if you think the story shouldn't be covered....look up, your roof is a rock.

I **** Obama and all he stands for, but I have to agree with you Mega, he is the president.

My UNC Tar Heels 2005 national championship team gave "schedule conflict" as a reason that they could not attend a White House ceremony honoring them during GWB's tenure.

As an alum, I was very disappointed that they would allow politics to dictate their decision.

Although they weren't as blatant about it as Hampton was, those of us that support the athletic programs at UNC know the real reason they did not attend, the administration's dislike for the president at that time.

Strangely enough, after they won again in 2009, they accepted an invitation from president Obama. Hampton is wrong and so was UNC in 2005.

C'est la vie.
