Bears Hall of Famer Hampton refuses White House invite

Hampton gave three reasons for not attending:
.....
1. Wives and ******** of the players weren't invited.

2. He says he's "not a fan of the guy in the White House."

3. "It was 25 years ago. Let it go."

Likely translation: I'm a goofy GOPer hack too stoopid to be an American for a second and put aside partisanship to appreciate something I didn't get a chance to when I was supposed to....

The ass should at least attend if for no other reason than to honor his fallen teammate in the late, great Walter Payton

What a douche...

Anyway....'the rest of the story' ...

He should show respect for the office even if he doesn't like Obama. If McCain was president, would he make a different decision? You just don't decline a presidential invitation to visit the White House....politics be damned. Disrespectful to the nation.

It makes it all the worse knowing that President Obama is a Bears fan. This is borderline racist in my mind. Hampton truly is a dick hole for this ****. Quit the bullshit sugar-coated excuses, Dan.

It was 25 years ago. Let it go.

The 25-year-old canceled visit is a thinly veiled excuse to invite the team from Obama's adopted hometown for a visit. What about other championship squads? Where's John Riggins' and The Hogs' invite? The 1974 Dolphins can't get any love?! (And Florida's a swing state, Barack!)
This, FTW!

This, FTW!

Riggins deserves an invite? Not after this little bit of history....

Sandy Baby Announces Retirement

As some of you may have heard by now, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor has announced her retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court, effective upon the confirmation of her replacement, and boy do we all have a fun few months coming up while that battle is being fought. Personally, I expect Bush will probably nominate Noam Chomsky or maybe Michael Moore, but these are not the odds-on favorites.

Few expected O'Connor to be the one to go. According to the New York Times, allies of the White House were taken off guard. C. Boyden Gray, former White House counsel and now head of a "key advocacy group set to back whoever the president nominates," learned of the resignation this morning by text message. "It makes me nervous," he said.

While O'Connor will be remembered for being the first female justice, for having great influence on Court decisions by frequently providing a swing vote, and for writing a lot of probably notable opinions that I could go find the names of right now if I had more time, this is not the place for any of that. No, this is the place to recall the White House dinner in 1985 at which a ******* John Riggins, then a running back for the Washington Redskins, told Justice O'Connor to "loosen up, Sandy baby." Here's Riggins' version of the story, as told to New York Sports Express:

NYSX: At a White House Dinner in 1985 you gave my all-time favorite quote, admonishing Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor: "Loosen Up Sandy baby. You're too tight." What made you say that to her?

JR: You have to remember, as they say, I was feeling no pain. The person who really ended up getting the full brunt of me that evening was Chuck Robb who was the governor of Virginia at that time. . . . And then it was announced that Justice O'Connor and her husband John had to leave the banquet early. So that's when I made my comment. You know, like you would to a friend — "C'mon where you going, stick around, loosen up, have some fun here." That's the vein it was meant in. I was just having fun.

She understood that. I saw her this January. We came face to face and the first thing she said was "You know, you're going to be on my tombstone." And I said "You know what Justice O'Connor? That's the same thing I tell people. You're going to be on my tombstone." So we're kinda joined at the hip for eternity I think. Which I have to say if you're gonna be joined at the hip to somebody, Sandra Day O'Connor ain't a bad one to be joined to in my opinion. . . . I'm sure she doesn't see it that way, but it's not bad on my end.

This is why footbal sux ass, inside and out. You wouldn't catch a baseball player pulling this ****. Even Ty Cobb would have accepted this invite.......and behaved himself.

This is such a non-issue. Why would you accept an invitation to a person's home that you don't like? Most people do this on a regular basis in their personal lives. I understand that its different because he's the President, but if you don't like someone, why would you go out of your way to spend time with them? He doesn't like the President, so he's not going. Big deal.

There are many other examples of athletes turning down invitations to the White House.

Most recently:
- Premium Link Upgrade .
- Premium Link Upgrade turned down an invite to the Obama White House stating:
"What's the big whoop? You're in for some photos, if you're lucky the White House dog doesn't take a leak on your new shoes, and before you know it you're back on the plane heading home..."
Also citing that he "...finds the ritual itself pointless..."

-Even Premium Link Upgrade turned down a White House invite in lieu of a golf game.

Contrary to popular belief, not everything needs to be analyzed and critiqued in regards to its social acceptableness. Get over it.

this is the first I've heard of Dan Hampton since he was elected to the Hall. Who fucking cares?

In my view the White House inviting championship teams over has always seemed like a blatant, pathetic, and shameless publicity stunt anyhow so it doesn't bother me. :dunno:

I appreciate your insights and under normal social situations you would be absolutely correct but we're not talking about the Andersons down the street inviting you over for drinks and dinner. This is a little more official than that. I'm not going to lose any ***** over it but Hampton is a pompous jerk for refusing the invitation. Oh....and James Harrison? Yeah, he's a great one to set an example. Not to mention a bunch of southern rednecks....:1orglaugh Good ones, PR!

I dont care who's president I would go in a heartbeat. But then again I'm a history nut and to have a chat with the President and see the Whitehouse outside the normal tour would be to interesting for me to pass up.

When the president of the US invites you under any circumstances to the people's house and you (for whatever pettyism) snub it...you're instantly a fucking 'tard-loser no matter who you are or from what side of the political spectrum you germinate.

For those of you saying it's a non story, duh. Of course we'll all live, continue to whack to porn and bitch about politics on a porn board. () But if you think the story shouldn't be covered....look up, your roof is a rock.

I understand completely. I don't particularly like Obama, but if he invited me to the White House... I would go. I'm just saying that there have been others that have done the same thing. Black, white, Rep Pres., Dem. Pres. etc... If its that important to them to not hang out with people they don't like, that's their prerogative.

I'm actually having a hard time deciding, in my opinion, which would be worse: Flat out refusing to accept the WH invitation on the grounds of distaste for the President; or accepting the invitation, with the same distaste for the Pres., yet insincerely smiling in his face, almost as if attending in jest?

The latter , to me at least, seems like a bigger insult.

Not slamming you per se p/r but this shouldn't be a dilemma in the mind of someone older than 11 IMO.

It's simple; theoretically as an American there are times when you set aside your political hangups...being invited by the President of the US (no matter who it is) to the WH is one of them.

You ALWAYS respect the office and the house irrespective of who is is there as long as they're duly elected.:2 cents:
