Automotive things going-on

About time! Trump is pressuring US automakers to make entry-level / affordable vehicles under $30K.

"I think here’s a more fundamental version: Can you engineer vehicles that are fundamentally a lower cost? So that you can pass that on to the customer," Bill Ford said. "That’s what we’re working on."

That's why it's still around after all of these years. It's about as close to a supercar as you're going to get, for less than a quarter of a million bucks, a Ferrari starts where, about $500k, and that doesn't get you much of a Ferrari. Which I might add, you really can't drive it, if you want the appreciation in value. At least with a Vette, you can take it out and drive it semi regularly.

Oooooo! I didn't know / hear about this. 600HP?! Too bad it looks like a (Volvo) Polestar.. (Replacement for the Premium Link Upgrade Stinger.)

The l3aked documents indicate the ( Premium Link Upgrade ) EV8 will make up to 603 hp, and while that will likely be for the top-trim variant, it’s a good bump over Premium Link Upgrade .

"Nearly half of all new car registrations last year came from people 55 and older, according to S&P Global data. Twenty-five years ago, the average buyer was a little over 43 years old."

"At end of last year, vehicles priced over $70,000 were staying about the same amount of time on dealer lots as cars under $70,000. And buyers with household incomes above $150,000 accounted for 29 percent of all car purchases, up from 18 percent in 2020."

If it was 60 year olds, I would say they're just buying the last car they plan on buying, but most people aren't retiring at 55.

Regarding the .. vehicle market:

“Affordability pressure remains significant, with the average monthly finance payment reaching $811, up $32 from a year ago," J.D. Power's King said of expected February results. "In response, more consumers are turning to 84-month loan terms, which are expected to account for 12.7% of financed sales this month compared to 7.7% a year ago."

King warned that the number of new-vehicle buyers with negative equity on their trade-in — meaning they owe more on the car than it is worth — in February is expected to reach 31.5%, a 3.4 percentage point increase from February 2025.

Not .. automotive, but .. transport-related:

The Superleggera V4 Centenario, priced at $165,000 and limited to just 500 numbered units, is already sold out, a testament to Bologna, Italy-based Ducati’s hold on the most discerning motorcycle enthusiasts. A special Tricolore variant, limited to 100 units and priced at $250,000, also sold out.

For reference: you can get a 1,254HP Corvette ZR1X for $207,395.. And, "the nuts" 670HP L3 Corvette Z06 for $133,245..

That's a nice bike. I used to love watching the superbike races. The Ducati rider at the time was Pascal Picatti, man could that dude ride. I always found the race bikes uncomfortable though, probably cause I'm a big guy and more suited to cruisers and touring. Putting 200+ horsepower on a bike could be dangerous, but I doubt any of the buyers are inexperienced riders, at the price they're asking, but I know I wouldn't get on one without some race track training.
