Besides fish&chips, what do you eat? :D

Sunday roasts are good.
Proper pies and West Country (Cornish) pasties.
Good sausages are all over.
Decent curry is also readily available!

There's a lot more organic and slow-grown food around nowadays, thankfully, and tonnes of good restaurants serving modern British cuisine as well as everything else. :glugglug:

All around the mulberry bush
The monkey chased the weasel,
The monkey thought 'twas all in fun.
Pop! Goes the weasel!

A penny for a spool of thread,
A penny for a needle.
That's the way the money goes,
Pop! Goes the weasel!

Up and down the City Road.
In and out of the Eagle.
That's the way the money goes,
Pop! Goes the weasel!

Half a pound of tupenney rice,
Half a pound of treacle,
Mix it up amd make it nice,
Pop! Goes the weasel!

wot's all that about then ?

I really don't know! Here are the clues:

Is North London better than East London?

Which side of London has the least immigrants?

West London has least immigrants but has many immigrants anyway - richer ones in Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea, and Hammersmith and Fulham. But Southall is also West London really and is almost completely Asian. Uxbridge and Hounslow are similar.

There are about 100,000 Jews in NW London and another 100,000 in North London. But very few are immigrants.

East London has the most concentrations of immigrants, followed by South, North and West. London has at least 50% population of those who are either immigrants and descended from immigrants from within 3 or four generations - mainly since the 1950s when influxes came from abroad to help restart/build the country after WW2.

There are lots of black people: influx one from the Carib, and two from (mainly West) Africa. Many live in South London but Hackney, Tottenham and several other areas are primarily black.

Immigrants from E. Europe have been coming over for well over a century and are everywhere today.

Government figures as to the real population of London are predictably elusive. I spoke to a man "in the know" recently who said it was well over the 12 million mark despite us being informed that it's about 8.5 million.

Most immigrants in London are fine and dandy and mix in well.

Some of them should go home.:wave2:

What is considered "the rich" part of London? Is there a section (like a Frenchie arrondissement of Paris) where wealthy Londoners seem to cluster?

Yep. Here are (some of) the richer areas in no particular order:

Belgravia
Marylebone
Mayfair
St John's Wood
Hampstead
Kensington
Chelsea
Fulham
Wimbledon
Putney
Belsize Park
Sloane Square
Knightsbridge
Brompton
Holland Park
Ladbroke Grove/Westbourne Park/Notting Hill

:hatsoff:

I take in the concentration of immigrants in inversely proportional to the concentration of native wealthy citizens, therefore, making NW London the "best" part?

Are there a lot of chesty hotties in Brompton? Based on name alone, Brompton sounds like "my kinda town" as Sinatra might've said...

Hard to say. Perhaps immigrant areas are more identifiable if they are poorer. There are rich immigrants in all the rich areas and plenty of 'em. Perhaps they "look" more British because of the way they dress, where they hang out, drink, eat and all the rest of it.

It's an interesting point.

The "best" part? I don't know if there is one. I like Hampstead which has a small but significant liberal Jewish population, lots of single gay men with money, and a massive Heath which is nice in the day and rather "cottaged" at night. A fair few famous bods live there too.

That's Hampstead, by the way. Not Hampstead Garden Suburb.

Russian, Saudi etc etc.

I agree. There are a few more wealthy Americans these days, too. And there are quite a lot of young Italians in London of late - living here, not just on hols. Also quite a lot of Indians with professional aspirations are in town, but then they're all over the UK anyway so no surprise there. And they've been here a while anyway.
