2008 MLB Thread

Can anyone explain to me why they canceled the White Sox game last night? It was raining a little bit, but no need to cancel the game!

They probably couldn't get the field ready and playable in time.It was pretty much raining for about 10-12 hours straight, and I'm sure that the field was completely waterlogged.

This goes into my whole thing about how every single field in baseball should have a retractable dome.I find it completely ludicrous that MLB and the commissioner would allow the any new stadium to be built that doesn't have one.I mean who was the fucking genius that thought that it would be a good idea to "try" to play baseball in Minnesota in April? When game are getting snowed out?! like they did in Cleveland, then I think that you have to step back and do something about that.

I'm not saying blow every stadium up and build new ones,I just think that if you do decide to build a new stadium(like both New York teams, and Minnesota, and not sure who else has plans on a new park) then you should be required to build a retractable dome.

I know the Marlins have been trying to get a new park for years,if they had a retractable dome then that would totally eliminate all of the rain outs that they have every season, and that's pretty much the whole point of my post.

You know, I've noticed something with the Jays during their current series with Boston. They win against every opponent, except for the teams that count. They were won eleven of their last twelve games, and then they drop two to Boston, the team they are trying to catch up to. Watch, once the series is over they will start winning again.

I've been saying that for years.

Look at Pittsburgh. Rainouts/snow outs in April.

Detroit? Same as above.

Cleveland. Yep.

I think I'm jinxing my Brewers again. Might have to become a Royals fan or something. :(

The Boston series was obviously the most important, and I agree they failed by not winning it, but they did beat some great teams on their win streak(Minnesota, Chicago), and they did go for broke by starting Burnett and Litsch in the double header on three days' rest, which obviously seemed to affect Litsch, since his control was very uncharacteristically off. Cito has them playing better than they have in years and I really like their chances for next season(**crosses fingers and hopes Burnett gets re-signed**).

Burnett is going to be an interesting case. No question he opts out, I'm just not sure from the Jay's perspective whether it's worth re-signing him.

I highly doubt they resign Burnett. There pitching is allready good without him, what they need is a big bat in the line-up.

The may however end up signing him because of Halladay. I dont know when his contract is up but im almost certain he dosent want to play in Toronto anymore, and he has even asked to be traded.

Not me. I know my team sucks, and has for a very long time. The Pittsburgh Pirates, baby. Suck ala mode :D

Hey, I'm a fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, we should start a club.

Oh puuuhleeeeeeeeaaze Plasma!

You won world series in '92 and '93.

I'm sorry, but much as I'd like to share my unrelenting misery with you, you simply don't qualify :1orglaugh

Hey, you guys won the World Series five times. And your country wasn't insulted by the US Army holding the flag upside down while doing it. So there.

Yeah but two of those 5 were back at the dawn of creation. I was an infant for the third one, so that doesn't count. Then I was too stoned to enjoy the 4th one, so that leaves 1979.....a mere 29 years ago....and they've had how many winning seasons since? :crying:

I AM willing to give you extra credit for the flag thing :1orglaugh but still, Cub fans and Cub fans only have the grounds to trump my whining :1orglaugh

becks i wasn't surprised the fired yost they started sep 3-11 looking like they were repeating last year's collapse and management was angry that the team showed no signs of turining it around. just remember bodie54 one more losing season and Pirates will own the record for most losing seasons in a row. i've got a feeling they will make that happen

We really need some Royals fans here.

Maybe I'll switch my allegiance to them next season.

I, for one, was only surprised about the TIMING of Yost's firing.
