18 million seems to be the unmagic number

touche'.......except at least Zito's won three or four games, right? And he's bound to win some more. That's waaaaaay more than the magnificent whiffing machine can claim lol

Jones DID get on base once last night, but only because his fifth strikeout of the game came on a wild pitch

what's sad is the rest of the league knew Jones was aging quickly yet the Dodgers ignored the signs. releasing him and eating the contract is the way to go but it won't happen given the NL worst where everyone is a contender no matter the record hence the Giants who really need to get younger will hold on to their vets thinking they are actually competing when they aren't even close. Zito was smart to take the stupid money offered the next nearest contract offer was for $50 million less.

I'll bet Dodger fans are just thrilled by Andruw Jones' transformation following arthroscopic surgery

Here's a thought, Dodgers. Despite your mediocrity you're only 2 games out of first place. Despite Pierre's injury you've got three other competent outfielders. Put aside your general manager's ego, bite the bullet for making a HUGE mistake, and sit the fucking strike out machine down!

We actually have 2 strikeout machines. Kemp is learning a little to much from Andruw.

Im still sticking with them to make the playoffs, but its going to come right down to the end.

World Series Prediction: Angels Vs. Dodgers

Okay, this is a little bit off topic, but today I watched the final of the "Haarlem Baseball Week" between Team USA (University team) and Cuba.

Team USA has some incredible young talents such as rightfielder Blake Smith. He can pitch too and he hitted some great balls. The most amazig was the catching of a ball which seemed to be outside the fence, but Blake put his foot against the fence, jumped and cathed the ball.
I don't know which University he is playing right now, but he will be transfered to Milwaukee.

Maybe one day, he will be playing in the Major League.

Sexson is very underrated defensively I wouldnt say hes J.T. Snow but hes not bad. Woot Giants got winning streak.:nanner:

Isn't that the way it goes? Your team goes on a winning streak just to have their momentum broken up by the all star break. :(

I'm somewhat concerned about the all-star break disrupting the Mets momentum as well. They won their 9th in a row today convincingly over the Rockies behind a sensational start by Mike Pelfrey. They're now a half game back of the Phils.

And speaking of streaks, Tampa Bay has now lost 7 in a row and surrendered the AL East lead to Boston. No offense to the Rays, but I wouldn't expect Boston to relinquish the lead for any significant amount of time here on out.

Actually the winning streak is all of one game after losing six straight and helping your Mets become the hottest team in baseball.

Oh OK! I thought perhaps the Giants had bounced back after the sweep by the Mets. Well, one game is a start! :)

Take the Mets streak with a grain of salt. 6 of the 9 wins have been against the Giants and Rockies. And at home, no less.

What do you all think of the Cubbies chances of breaking the streak exactly 100 years after it began? Personally, I think they already had the best pitching staff (starting rotation and bullpen) before they traded for Harden, even with the Brewers adding Sabathia. Look at them now though, Zambrano, Dempster, Harden, Lilly, and Marquis, not to mention Gaudin can start for them if anyone goes down with an injury. That's going to be a scary three-man front come playoffs (as long as they stay healthy, especially Harden). As a side question, who thinks the Sabathia trade was a mistake, considering he's an unrestricted free agent along with Sheets after this season, and the trade didn't even make them better than the Cubs, they're still well behind in all facets of the game?

True, but at the same time he's hitting .290, and handling breaking pitches better than he had previously.

Im still sticking with them to make the playoffs, but its going to come right down to the end.

I'm not seeing this unless Penny and/or Schmidt returns in top form and the team goes injury free the rest of the way.

World Series Prediction: Angels Vs. Dodgers

So long as the Angels don't have to go through Boston I think you might be right about them. As far as the Dodgers go, I'm so sure they won't make it that if they do I'll buy everybody on this thread an autographed Andruw Jones jersey :1orglaugh

He goes to The University of California, just a bit up the road from me. Glad you enjoyed the game, Eric

Yes, I believe they will!
But now they'll have to overcome their 100 year old curse plus the jinx of me endorsing them :1orglaugh

I totally agree.

the Cubs do look good and it helps that other than Ryan Dempster nobody on the Cubs is having a super season, which means everybody is contributing. Gotta like thier chances when the playoffs come as Lou Pinella knows how to make the right moves
