Pitchers with a higher strikeout ratio tend to hold up better, tend to be better overall, and are A LOT less reliant on the defense behind them. His strikeout ratio isn't that bad. I think it's around 5.5 per 9 innings. There are a lot worse people. It's the fact he keeps walks to a minimum that makes it work though. It's just that great pitchers like that are anomalies. The only one I can think of that did it in my lifetime, and that held up and were great for most of his career off the top of my head is Maddux,...and maybe Glavine. But a lot of it with Glavine was that it seemed he had the supernatural ability to somehow make the umpires call a strike zone that was 5 inches wider than for any other pitcher, then him really being as good as his numbers suggest. The risk with low strikeout pitchers like that is if they ever get unlucky with an abnormal amount of balls in play that go for hits or a situation comes up where they have a crappy defense behind them then they can play just as well as before but people will wonder what the hell happen when their ERA goes up a run or two. If he did give them that big of a discount it would be a good idea to pick him up, especially considering the ridiculous salaries even mediocre inning munchers get now.
Yeah, like I said earlier, he's like a Maddux, only lefty, and well, not as studly. And yeah me and my friends we just talking about the special strike zones that Maddux used to get when he was with the Braves. We think he did it with mirrors.
This is too funny! Cleveland is close at the All Star break and the bandwagon is growing larger. Detroit fans have one good season and they are the kings now. I'm more than a little sad to see Jason Kendell traded.
I'm looking forward to having him on my team. Sure we're not getting the '03 Kendell. Yeah he's old. I feel that whatever offense he can bring is all gravy. I'm just looking for his studly experience behind the plate, calling pitches.
I like it a lot.
I thought it was kinda funny reading what some A's pitchers were saying about how much he is going to be missed and whatnot. Compared to when the Cubs let Barrett go, nobody said shit. LOL I used to like Barrett, but that's cause I used to always get him in fantasy baseball. He truly was a shitty catcher though. I'm so glad we got Kendall.

Yeah that was a bit odd that Barrett had like no back-up. Poor Jason good booed in the fourth inning of his first game though! I wonder if Zambrano is still going to be working with that Hill kid or if he's going to go with Kendell.

Yeah I know his average isn't too good right now, but this time last year he wasn't hitting very well either. I have little doubt that his average will be at about .270-.290 by years end.
The other two catchers before Kendall got to the Cubs combined for a .220 BA! Looks like that Hill guy is starting to hit though. I do wonder too if Zambrano will have Kendall catch for him after he gets a little more acclimated to the team?
