2007 MLB Thread

I'm excited to see Roger back, but honestly his age scares the hell out of me. The skill is still there, but the body may not be. Any 45 year old is high risk for injury.

The good thing about pitchers that are old is that unlike somebody in their early 20s you don't have to worry about injury to their arm as much from pitching like you do for the other people. Unfortunately, it's the rest of their body that has a greater chance of breaking down.

Well Reds lost again. They fucking suck and I get sick of it.

I've never seen anyone on this board throw a baseball, but I think that we could put together a better bull pen than the Reds have.

I think The Rocket has it down to a science (no pun intended), he has missed the first 8 weeks of the season (by the time he returns) That is 9 - 10 starts for the season that he has missed. That is also 9 - 10 opportunities to get worn down and a possible injury. He will be strong for the next 20 starts and qualify for any awards, i.e. Cy Young, if he pitches well. He stays in shape and is ready for the rest of the season. I think he is the best pitcher of my lifetime, if not ever...

I do have to give him credit for that. Throughout his career he has taken conditioning very seriously which probably has a lot to do with why he has been resistant to having his arm constantly getting injured. The only other big name pitcher I can think of like that is Randy Johnson who was more of a 1 in 10,000 freak of nature where the abuse and pitch counts he racked up just didn't matter to him rather than being a conditioning maniac like Clemens is. Plus Johnson started pitching heavily at the age of 26, which probably helped him also.

I also think Clemens has cemented his spot of the greatest pitcher our generation has had. You would probably have to go back to early last century to find people comparable. There was a point where I would put him with Pedro, Randy Johnson, and Greg Maddux but I think he has pulled himself above that group. I would actually say he could be considered a "inner circle" hall of famer at this point, and if it wasn't for Mr. Potato head (aka Barry Bonds), Alex Rodriguez, and Mark McGwire you could make a case for him being the best player of our generation. (I counted people like Ricky Henderson as a little before my time).

 God the Yankees are making me so sick, they got walloped today like 14-2 or something I couldn't even finish watching the game. Just goes to show you all that damn payroll don't buy you a winning team.....ARRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHH

I saw that game in the top of 9th and had to make sure it wasn't a "yankee classic"

look at the bright side. you werent there in person to see your team lose 8-0. and i have a sunburn to show for it. :(

Bobby Cox passes Sparky Anderson the all time wins list. :hatsoff:

P.S. Sparky is still the Man though. Go Tigers

True, but i was there to see them loose the world series to the Marlins, so that stung just a lil bit more:weeping:

i assume you mean you saw the yankees? 1997 will always go down as one of the worst years of my life. :D

Yup I was at the stadium to see them lose the World Series to the Marlins, Josh Beckett pitched that game, and i got a ticket for drinking in public.

i understand nealdrox im almost to the point where i cant watch them anymore

I almost feel bad for the Cubs players. I don't feel too bad for Piniella though. Hate that guy. Up by 4 in the bottom half of the 9th and still find a way to lose 6-5 to the Mets. Can't spell lousy without Lou.

I have never been a Piniella fan. As a Cubs fan this stuff has long since passed the point where it bothers me anymore. In fact in every situation like that, I think most Cubs fans almost expect something like that to happen.
