A thought on Willy Mo Pena:
From my p.o.v.
Willy Mo Pena serves us no good as a bench player, he can't hit coming off of the bench, with the exception of that pinch-hit grand slam. He can still develop into a 40hr+ guy, but not here, he needs to go to a small market team, a Kansas City or a Pittsburgh type of team.
But seriously think about it, what does Willy Mo offer us? Nothing. He doesn't offer any speed off of the bench, apparently no bat either, and he certainly isn't a defensive replacement, he's just not the type of player we need.
Now, ask this question...why was he brought here then? Well, the answer is simple. He was brought here to replace Nixon, or possibly Manny, and once Coco and Trot were injured last season, we were able to see what he offered us, and you can see what we thought about it, we signed JD Drew.
So now, ask this question...Why is he still here? To build up trade-value. I can see him being packaged with Coco Crisp and a Brandon Moss or Craig Hansen for an Ichiro type player.
To further my point, Michael Tucker was signed to a minor-league contract yesterday to give Bobby Scales some time off. He has been playing both the infield and outfield like crazy for Pawtucket. You heard it hear first, Willy Mo Pena will not be on the Boston Red Sox postseason roster. He will be gone by the trading deadline.
And if anyone has an opinion on who else could be brought up instead of Mike Tucker, I will gladly prove you wrong.
