(CNN) -- The Florida pastor who had planned to burn copies of the Quran on Saturday has called it off.

The Rev. Terry Jones of the Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center made the announcement Thursday.

Earlier Thursday, President Obama said Jones' plan, which had triggered worldwide controversy, would be a "recruitment bonanza for al Qaeda."

"You could have serious ******** in places like Pakistan or Afghanistan" as a result of the proposal by Jones, Obama said on ABC's "Good Morning America." "This could increase the recruitment of individuals who'd be willing to blow themselves up in American cities, or European cities."

Jones had previously said he wouldproceed with the plan Saturday -- the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks -- despite increased pressure to abandon the proposal and warnings that going ahead could endanger U.S. troops and Americans worldwide.

I was never for it but in some ways, I'm a little disappointed

Aw, maaaaan!

There goes the church's building fund

Well, with all those Korans, maybe they could open up a Mosque? Maybe on Saturday.

Why does it not surprise me that some of you are disappointed he cancelled.

This fucking meathead got everything he wanted - international media attention. Of course he called it off. It's mission accomplished for him.

What a fucking cock holster.

Just in case I wasn't clear, I think this guy is a waste of skin, and I'd rather spend a decade with StanScratch's **** shits than an hour conversing with this fucker.

His church has all the publicity it could ever hope for, of which this publicity stunt - which I think we can quite categorically name as so given the current circumstances - was so obviously meant to garner and garner it has. I'm sure those involved in the creation of this "event" are extremely happy with the way it was playing out.

Although you do have to wonder why he and the church backtracked now even with the ample amounts of publicity it received if that was indeed what they were looking for (and I think it was); was it the news that US citizens lives might be at stake or that the act in and of itself might serve as ample propaganda for terrorist recruiters? Surely they knew they were going to **** people off who take this book extremely seriously in doing this beforehand. If they didn't well then what little regard I had for the intelligence of these people which was minuscule to begin with has just dropped to microscopic proportions. Or was it the sheer wave of bad press directed at them from all sides? See above for my response to that.

I wonder if this Pastor has even read the Qu'ran, or if he just bases it's contents off of what he hears from others that are just as ignorant as he is. :dunno:

He got the publicity he wanted although there's rumours he struck a deal with the group that wanted to build the New York mosque that he would cancel the book burning if they agreed to move the mosque :dunno:

If this is true, I may drive to the church so I can **** on the front steps. Every day. For a year.

They're welcome to burn it. I'm just expressing my right to **** on bastards. (That's a right guaranteed by the founding fathers, isn't it?)

larss

I'm watching some specialist videos
Well praise the Lord for small mercies.
Shame I live so far away, otherwise I would be joining the lurking one in his mission to foul the steps of the Dove Outreach centre.

The Daily Mail is the Fox News of the world of news in print, so I would take anything they say with a slight pinch of salt.

I think I'll wait for further confirmation from a better source before I comment.

Is seems Jones himself is proclaiming that this deal has been struck, the other 'side' is yet to backup his claim

I knew that psycho would puss out and if it's not because he's scared of muslim retaliation, the ink is poisoness and I doubt he has the money to get everyone a gas mask. Such a dumb ass thinking burning books is a good way of remembering the twin tower victems anymore than muslims extremeists burning our flags is a good way of scary us. If this is the way people do things because they're offending, we're never going to social progress in our country or worldwide.

I can't think of a better use for them.

Great job in being mature about this. Maybe you should actually read the Quran so you won't be in a religious debate and only have "I **** on your religion" to say. I hope you enjoy those papaer cuts and a ruined toilet.

This sort of guy would never even leave his little town but innocent Americans working/studying/traveling abroad would suffer for his selfish provocative actions, I doubt the guy has ever even met a muslim in his entire life. If there was no terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers he would probably have complained about them for being a center for capitalism and greed. :flame:

If it's true then it does seem like a really odd concession for the owners of Park 51 to make. Why not just take the moral high ground on this issue and pass off the actions of this small church out in the sticks as an act the proposed community centre was created to attempt help the community and wider society to move beyond; before compromising with their wishes?

Very strange behaviour in my opinion. If it's true, which I think I should stress again.
