Pastor calls off Quran burning

Facetious

Why does it not surprise me that some of you are disappointed he cancelled.

Well if you were in favor of the mass Qur'an burning why . . . why . . you'd just be an ignorant and unenlightened bigot, got it? Oh and you'd be an Islamo-phobe . . .
That's what my jr college teacher says and I'm stickin too it!

So he says he cancelled it after striking a deal to move the mosque. When they say that they never made the deal and won't move it, he will reschedule the burning and claim this time it is justified because the Muslims didn't want to compromise.

God bless America. Since when did the freedom of speech become the freedom of ignorance?

Little Gainsville Pastor turns entire Ummah on it's head. Got to give him a thumbs up on that one.
He gains more by not burning the korans.

Don't the Imams teach that if a Quran falls into the hands of an infidel it should be burned anyway? I just think they're eliminating the middle man. It may be in poor taste but so is the proposed mosque adjacent to Ground Zero.

Also, this ass head of a preacher never had an agreement with anyone even remotely affiliated with the mosque in question and that they've never even been in contact with him.

it's a good thing, there isn't a book that deserves to be burned. In european history book-burning is related to the catholicism and to nazism; i think that no one wants them back ;)

I use a Quran to balance the broken leg on my night stand, that I place my Bible on.
you can't be serious:D

yes but in reality, book burning was much more significant back in the time where mass prints, and now today electronic sources were not readily available. When books were burned back then, it was with the intent to actually destroy the contents permanently. Today, and in this case it was nothing more than a huge viral/media campaign. Nothing truly bad would have come from this burniing, other than the reaction and from what people make out of it. Very strong symbolism...nothing more.

It's still not a mosque, it is a youth centre with a prayer room, and it is still 2 blocks away from ground zero and not adjacent to Ground Zero.

what matters in this problem isn't the particular copy of a book: the man that wished to burn it gave to the act and to the book a symbolic value.
When someone burns the flag of a nation nothing really happens to the nation but the act is very harsh. The same works for the quran: when you burn it you burn metaphorically what is written inside it so you burn an idea different from yours.

i think that act like this won't bring something good and i think that the act of burning a symbol of a religion is against the western concept of freedom.

btw is also futile: this won't bring in life the victims of 11/9 and won't prevent the bombings against civilians or the hijacking of an aircraft. So where's the point? Pure pestering wish?
Seems like a child's whim
