But, yes, I'm massively into hip hop, though I find years of recent mediocrity have left me a tad disillusioned, though with people like *****/Ill Bill around, there's still decent stuff to look forward to.

Best era was, without doubt 94-95, so many classics dropping from either coast, I remember late '95 when London Records brought out Show & A.G.'s Goodfellas and W.C. & The Maad Circle's Curb Servin' out, both classics, one East, one West, fantastic days. :)

Best producer, though it might be a boring choice, has got to be DJ Premier, his entire album production on things like Group Home's and Jeru's debut albums, top notch beat after top not beat, geniusly consistent and surprising, he's an immensely talented man, and still has quite a lot of his power left, unlike The Rza, who's gone a bit, well, ****.

I hear you on Preem but it's a toss up between Premier and Pete Rock. Soul Survivor ('98?) is definitely one of the top 2 or 3 hip hop projects ever IMO.

"Strange Fruit" -Pete Rock feat. Cappadonna, Tragedy Khadafi and Sticky Fingaz

This is one of PRs best tracks IMO, the beat is infectious and creating that track from David Axlerod's "The Smile" is fucking amazing. Then he added in backwards and normal samples of Billie Holiday's vocals from her '39 version of "Strange Fruit"....then Cappadonna, Tragedy... and Sticky Fingaz (especially) rippin' it.

^Niiiiiice. ;)

Yeah, you can't forget Pete Rock, the man's a genius, even his more niche instrumental stuff (Petestrumentals, The Surviving Elements etc.) get major play.

Not that I need to choose the 'best', but Premo slightly edges it for me with his slightly bouncier, more aggressive-sounding beats. PR's music sounds like a pure evolution of jazz, his stuff is proper headnod, almost subliminal, nocturnal.

Both are fantastic, however.

PLEASE NO HATERS. IF YOU POST HERE AND "**** RAP" YOU MUST BE ILLITERATE

If your a supporter of hip hop/rap culture, feel free to talk about whatever or whoever you like

so has anyone heard T.I's new album Paper Trail? Im feeling it. Its good to see him bounce back after beating that case. In one week he sold over 500,000 copies!

What is your point?

I could see that...It's just something about PR's tracks sometimes that make them insanely complex..and when you realize his concepts it just makes it that much better IMO.

But definitely you could switch these two between either 1 or 2 and I wouldn't have a problem with it because they are my 2 favs.

I think my favorite Premier track is probably "Royalty" or "Above the Clouds" (especially like how 'Deck ripped it).:2 cents:

"Above the Clouds" Gangstarr feat. Inspectah Deck (Moment of Truth album)

Oh, yeah, one of my favourite Premo beats:

D&D Allstars - 1,2, Pass It - Premium Link Upgrade

(I like how they get Mad Lion out of the way at the start of the song, god knows how that man ever got a record deal! :) )

There's a few hip-hop tracks that I REALLY love...

"Iron Galaxy" by ******** OX, "Black Boy" by Cappadonna, "Moment Of Truth" by Gang Starr.

Any genre of music can be good if done right

Inspectah Deck is badass however underated.
I remember hearing the first verse in Wu-Tang Clan 'Triumph.'
Inspectah Deck was ripping it!

No ****! 'Deck has some of the best lyrics...."I leave scientists mentally scarred, triple extra large..wild like rock stars who smash guitars..." :1orglaugh

"..stomp grounds and pound footprints in solid rock. Who got it locked performing live on your hottest block?"

Can't forget Canibus, a rapper who's never really made it big, made some bad choices in terms of musical direction and beats, but a truly lyrical MC. Here's him taking out Eminem:

^^Another on of my fav tracks feat. 'Deck...."Tru Master" Pete Rock feat. Inspectah Deck and Kurupt (Soul Survivor).

The track and the hook is sick IMO.
