Paying more taxes is Patriotic?

Joe Biden has stated that paying higher taxes is the patriotic thing to do.--That is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.I say let the senators put their salaries and massive expense accounts into the mix.---Taxing citizens in a stressed economy is INSANE.--Just another example of the democrats saying "Do what we say,not what we do"---I was shocked. This elite asshole wants all the money and then will give You back a portion after They have had their fill..----Tax,tax,tax...Insane theory---Give the government everything, and then let them give back to You what THEY think You deserve???---Obama made a bad choice in picking Him,,,,or is Obama the same??

You should use the entire quote and not truncate it for political purposes. He said the "Wealthy Paying Higher Taxes Patriotic Thing To Do" and not everybody paying more. With the Iraq War costing at least a trillion, billions and billions for the financial crisis, rising interest on the nation debt and major increases in the defense budget the government needs the revenue. The US has to stop increasing the national debt by borrowing from China to pay the bills. Nobody like to pay taxes but it's the price of civilization. You offer no solutions and the attitude you display is how we got in to the mess we are in now. Have a good day.

Yea I think there is a big difference there. I am so tired of all the right wingers saying that Obama is going to raise taxes. Only people who are making over 250,000 k a year will be taxed more which is only 5%.

And giving to charity is just a human thing to do. I would think that one should be a humanitarian before being patriotic.

What did old Joe the humanitarian give to charity?

Democratic vice presidential nominee Sen. Joe Biden released 10 years of tax returns Friday...The Bidens' joint gross income hovered between $215,000 and $320,000 a year during this period...The amount they gave to charity during this period never exceeded one-half of 1% of their annual income. The Bidens never gave more than $995 to charity in any of the tax years, and usually gave much less.

This contrast is an example of a broader phenomenon:

conservatives who practice religion, live in traditional nuclear families and reject the notion that the government should engage in income redistribution are the most generous Americans, by any measure. Conversely, secular liberals who believe fervently in government entitlement programs give far less to charity. They want everyone's tax dollars to support charitable causes and are reluctant to write checks to those causes.

Well that's a non sequitur to the thread topic. I'll offer another non sequitur, Joe Biden has a net worth of $150,000. That's lower middle class at best and Charity begins a home.

well, okay, that's fair.

Now I have to think this. he makes 200-300k a year and his net worth is 150k? Yikes. I so don't want to give this guy the keys to the economy. He must be spending a ton of money on hookers and blow.

You may be right. An investigate on his connection with the Interior Department scandal should be investigated. :dunno:

In my opinion, the next administration must reorganize/reform the IRS and/or the tax collection process. Paying the national debt's interest expense alone will require a much more efficient system.

******?
Theres a difference between being patriotic and being a mug.

The most patriotic thing to do is to hang them all high, but then they 'll take us for terrorists.

Anyway, paying more taxes is the most idiotic thing to do, not patriotic:thefinger

it is not by instoring high taxes that you will get the sympathy of voters

icerfan

Nikkala made me do it!
I always have to laugh at rich Democrats who say all rich people should pay more taxes ... then turn around and claim every last available IRS deduction they can. THEY could volunteer to pay more, you know. :2 cents:

Money, get back! I'm alright Jack keep your hands off of my stack! :sing:

Patriotic? Absolutely. There is no mandatory military service in this country. There's no law that says you should ever vote or give your opinion. You dont even have to have a job to live in this country. You wont starve, you wont freeze to death. Being homeless in America is very possible. It's a nation full of whiners.

I agree that there is plenty of money misused and ****** no matter WHAT section of society. Restaurants, banks, government and private. But.. what you're against is completely ludicrous.

Do you want to pay taxes, or do you want to go out and pave the roads yourself? Pay taxes? Oh damn! That's my money! I need an extra bottle of Jose Cuervo. Pay taxes? Homeless dont deserve any tax money! Bah!

What you're paying for is going to meaningful programs a huge majority of the time. You dont want to pay for the privilege of living in this society, go to Mexico. You're paying for people to maintain your own quality of life in America. Supermarkets, high speed internet connections and free porn. You bite the hand that feeds you all this?

...Ungrateful citizen that needs a year in iraq or cuba.

I would much rather hear a politician talk about ways to reduce and eliminate taxes rather than increase them.

That would be oh so nice......

Given today's events alone...the Pubs have just ensured higher taxes are on the way. Basically, overturning every piece of legislation and idea George W. Bush ever had his paws on is a good start toward returning sanity to America. This means ending the Occupation, breaking up the Dept of Homeland Security, overturning his tax cuts, etc. Simply reactivating previously existing taxes is not the same thing as "increasing taxes" as the Pubs will have people think. "Increasing taxes" kind of means coming up with entirely new taxes, right? Then again, can anyone give one reason why we should bother listening to Republican politicians anymore? Seriously. They have run out of "political capital." They do not put "country first" at all. Only corporate interests first.

The empire thrived before the Bush tax cuts. The empire practically died with them. Think of it that way Meester...

Oliver Wendall Holmes Jr. "Taxes are the price for civilization."

If you're a Democrat and promise to cut the taxes of 95% of all Americans, you're raising taxes. If you're a Republican (in a state with no state income tax and no state sales tax) and give a $1,200 rebate from oil income to all taxpayers, you're cutting taxes.

^^^This is called "Maverick" thinking and it usually comes from spending countless hours inside a tax payer funded tanning bed fighting "daylight deprivation depression."
