Ok, back on topic, back on topic...
I wouldn't want to go back in time, be it of my own volition or someone else's, for any reason. Like it or not, life in 2007 USA is far better than ten, twenty, thirty years ago anywhere else, including the U.S.
Safe, drinkable water, reliable sanitary disposal systems, dilligently monitored sources of food, reliable energy sources (yes, even despite the big outage of August 2003) safe means of transportation (and yes, I've read about the recent incident in Minnesota, and other mishaps in the recent past). Pastuerized milk, self-defrosting refrigerator-freezers, perma-press clothing, air conditioning, lead-free gasoline and low-emission exhaust standards, smoke detectors and sprinklered public buildings, an increasingly predominant smoke-free work environment and boundless sources of entertainment—even Federal health and safety standards implemented exclusively for the retail sale of
chicken feet! You can dye your hair blue, and there are safety standards imposed solely for your benefit for doing that, too.
Anyone care to step back in time to sieve out the rotting ****** carcass their cross-town rival deposited in your well or futily fend off the early morning fire that will overcome their grass roof-thatched, log, mud and manure-chinked domicile and a goodly portion of the residents within with sheepskin bucket of water hauled uphill from some oderific pond half a mile away?
Not me.
