yahoo messenger question

I havent had messenger for very long (a couple days)
never had any problems till this morning.
I start getting tons of requests from people I never even heard of and I meana like 20 or more in under a half hour
I finally had to shut it down.

I'm afraid I might have picked up a virus or something even thou a scan showed I was clean?

Any ideas?:dunno:

I can talk you through it. You have to change some of your settings, and then they will stop.

Let me log on, and I'll help you out.

While in Messenger, click on the word on top that says "Messenger". Then go down and click on "Preferences". Once in "Preferences" go down and click on "Messages". In the first box which says "When I receive a new message", there are two choices. You want to chose the first one, which says, "Show The Message Window". Then in the third box which says, "When I receive messages from people not on my messenger list", there are two choices. You want to chose the one that says, "Show Messages in a Single Window". Then click on the word on the left side of the "Preferences" screen that says, "Ignore List". You want to chose the option there that says, "Ignore anyone who is not on my messenger list". Then click "Apply" on the bottom of the "Preferences" screen, then "Ok". That should help solve your problem.

Yes. Log in as invisible. Then make the changes.

You downloaded the new messenger?

If so there should be an option when you first open messenger saying,

"Log in as invisible to everyone"

Check that option, then click "Sign In"
