I'm not surprised The Shield broke up. What would you expect from a bunch of dinosaurs doing the same thing on Raw night in and night out.
Looks like Batista left the company since upper management wouldn't give him a title shot. Another dinosaur disgruntled due to wrestling politics
Wait.... are the dinosaurs playing politics to screw the younger talent, or are the dinosaurs stuck in their ways and complaining too much about the politics? Make up your mind, young smark!
Honestly, I fucking loved The Shield, and their matches have been the in-ring highlight of three of the last four PPVs. But honestly, I'm not that bothered about them being split up... what more was there for them to do?? After you've gone over three men the standing of Trips & chums, there is nobody left. They've already had three (or is it four?) go arounds with the Wyatts, and you can't just conjure up another strong three-man unit to be realistic challengers for them in the six-man setup. Ambrose had a lengthy US title reign, Rollins and Reigns were tag team champions, and the unit was near unbeatable for most of their tenure, and actually unbeatable for the first six-seven months they were on TV. There was nothing left for them to do. Let's just be grateful that they weren't split pre-Mania as per the original plan, and we at least got two belting matches with Evolution before they were split up. Reigns has gravitas and pops the crowds with his signature strikes, he could really be something special, and they've been building him since Survivors. Rollins being the one to turn gives him a chance to show off more of what he can do character-wise, had he stayed babyface (i.e. Ambrose been the one to turn) he might have got lost in the shuffle. This is the start of the next chapter for three promising young careers, let us not mourn, brothers. Let us be thankful that we had so much fun with The Shield in the first place.
Tip - go back and watch one of their matches you may have forgotten - vs Cena/Ryback/Sheamus at Elimination Chamber 2013. Great fun.
1. Rusev - big, powerful dude. The big anti-American Russian nationalist (from Bulgaria no less) would have fit in perfectly in the 1984, Cold War era WWF. But he's not going to draw much heat with it now. Spoiler alert: we won. And it's completely over the heads of younger WWE fans who weren't around to see the USSR. Without a change in character, he'll probably end up like Mason Ryan or Big E. I'd be surprised if he's still getting a push in four months.
Depends how long it takes his for his match with Cena to roll around. Squashing the JTTS guys, getting given a good fight by Big E but still winning... it reeks of "let's give this guy an unbeatable aura" to create a big roadblock for Cena to effortlessly smash through, the way they used to get guys ready for Hogan. In the 80s.
Rusev's next feud will be his last before Cena. I expect SummerSlam to go :
Daniel Bryan v Brock Lesnar
Roman Reigns v Triple H
John Cena v Rusev
