I feel like these things only test how much privacy we want to give up. Survey says: its dead, Jim. Privacy is about keeping yourself to yourself and electing only what you want to share with others, not being forced to do so.

Privacy isn't all about hiding, its about maintaining the individual intimacy of one's being. That should only be shared with who you want to share it with.

Either you guys are privacy freaks or deep web users

Said the guy who was hacked by Ultron!

We only want to know the truth.

The truth is...Windows keeps track on what you do,but they couldn't care less when was the last time you fapped to Bree Olson :D
The only reason they collect data is to improve our user experience...the same reason as Google,Facebook and other big companies
And why should we blame them? It's a matter of opinion whether or not windows 10 us the best OS out there but it's a fact that its the best windows yet! And it was free!

Actually having used it for a few weeks, it's pretty shitty when compared to Windows 7. But to each their own.

maybe i went a little overboard with a bolded "fact" but it does have more features and more customization than any other windows...i thought that was enough for it to be a fact:suicide:

And you may be the most naive person that I've encountered in quite some time.

This.^

And especially this.^

Riiiiight. The old "to improve the user experience" line. And I guess that's the same reason that the Facebook app secretly uploaded contact lists when people (registered users or not) simply opened the app several years ago on their mobile devices??? :dunno: Marky Mark Suckerborg claimed that it was a mistake, an oversight, some kind of crazy coding error, he didn't mean to do it... it'll never happen again... him was so, so sorry. :crying: (Hey, hey... Sheryl, did the morons buy it? :yesyes:)

The majority of Facebook's revenue, a large portion of Google's revenue and an increasing share of Microsoft's revenue comes from advertising. And the more that an advertiser knows or is told about the target audience, the more the ad costs. If you were selling Rolex watches, would you rather pay for ads that target wealthy people or poor people? Would you pay more for ads that told you something about the targets or would you rather be a blind squirrel buying blanket ads? Even if it was a blanket ad, you'd still want the blanket to mostly cover wealthy people, wouldn't you?

Don't be gullible and believe that horseshit about "improving the user experience". And other than air, nothing is free. If they can get you to download their malware, I mean, software and divulge every little detail about yourself, then they can sell that data to advertisers. That's the primary reason that user data is collected. And as Adam said above, as long as I'm aware of and agree to that, I'm fine with it. But when a company uses my personal data without my knowledge, permission or consent, violates my privacy and makes money off me, then I do have an issue with that.

No offense intended (really), but the world is filling up with people like you. And that's what these companies are counting on. As more people mindlessly open up their lives up to Fakebook, Tweeter and Snap Chimp, or as OS's transmit (sometimes encrypted, sometimes not) everything from stock trades to tax returns to unknown locations, without regulation or control, things like identity theft and/or bank fraud become ever more serious issues.

Marketing data, that's where the real money is.
Take Pokemon Go as an example, Nintendo stock went up 50% in less than a week, because of all the marketing data and tracking data they are going to collect.
Advertising works extremely well, that's why a lot of companies have huge advertising/marketing budgets.
I try to be anonymous as much as possible online, I use mostly fake aliases on facebook and other sites.
But they are getting smarter, now facebook requires you to verify your ID with a real phone number if you want to create an account.
They say it's for "security", but it's mainly to collect more marketable data. $$$

I'm looking at buying a new laptop in the next few months (around the holidays, so I can get a deal). Right now I'm looking at either a MacBook Pro or an HP Spectre x360. The Spectre is an excellent laptop and is on par with the Mac in regard to build quality, etc. But the main thing holding me back from the HP is that it now only comes with Windows 10. So to avoid the Windows 10 nightmare, I'd have to go through the exercise of dumping Windows 10, loading it with Windows 7 Pro - which would also get rid of all the bloatware that comes with all mass market Windows based computers, that aren't Microsoft Signature Edition (you pay more to make sure there's no preloaded crap on your computer - what a deal!). Rather than go through all that hassle, I'll probably just get the MacBook Pro, load Windows 7 Pro under Parallels and be done with it. With that, I can seamlessly run any OS and any program that I want to run (Mac, Windows, Linux).

The sad thing is, a couple of years ago, the Mac hardware platform (without the associated bloatware) was found to be one of the best/fastest Windows computers by several computer sites, when running a clean copy of Windows in virtual machine mode. Like I said, I've been running Windows XP on a Mac for several years and it's been great and largely trouble free... very "un-Windows like". :D

I would think that IF Microsoft does not extend their free Windows 10 upgrade (expires July 29) then all the big computer stores (Frys, Amazon, etc.) will want to dump their remaining Windows 8.1 computers and will have big sales in August. I'm signed up for Fry's discount emails and it's common to see the high end laptops going for $50-$100 less than their competition.
