Why do so many people **** Lars Ulrich?

As for Lambardo being better, I dunno... I would say equal. Besides Kerry King is the biggest asshole on the face of the earth!

Then again, douchebaggery seems to be normal for old school metal artists. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth and Jeff Becerra of Possessed for example.

As for greatest drummer... Mike Portnoy and Igor Cavellera are the best to me.

That's one of the reasons I like Anthrax more than Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer (though I like them all, too). The guys in Anthrax tend to just let their fans toot their horn for them, as it should be. Anyone I've known who has met them has said that they were cool, modest, down-to-earth guys. Especially when you compare to the guys in Slayer, Megadeth and Metallica.
Anthrax aren't as famous or mainsteam as Metallica, they're not evil like Slayer and they don't have the sound technicality of Megadeth but they still kick ass with what they do, so the fact that they're not known to be pricks makes them even better. They have so much more appreciation for what they have while the others think the world owes them. Maybe it has something to do with being from New York, while the other 3 are from California. You couldn't be a west coast band in the 80's if you didn't have the Jim Morrison/god's gift mindset.

There's no way in hell King's even on the same plane of douchebaggery that Mustaine's on.

I think the whole group has several problems.

1. Hetfield is not an actual singer. His barking style is a joke.

2. Lars Ulrich is not much of a drummer... and he thinks he does not have to bend his knees to take a dump

3. Hammett is pretty much just a wanker with his solos

4. The single honest right now in the band is the new bassist. Robert Trujillo

This pretty much sums it up.

Because he is a short fat money grabbing midget with an ego the size of my cock! that's why we **** him.

They are the 2nd most important Metal band (after Sabbath) and re-invented the genre as we know it regardless of what you think of their latter albums.
Metallica most definitely aren't as influential as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, who re-invented the genre and are the main reason why Metallica even exist. And to this day, new bands are more likely to cite Maiden as their main influence. Metallica are an important chapter in the book of heavy metal, they sold shitloads of records, are very influential and so on, but I can't see them re-inventing much. They did not come up with thrash metal single-handedly and their biggest success had nothing to do with it anyway.

Why doesn't he take some lessons? Along with James Hetfield learning to actually sing ;)

Jimmy Hetfield is the master of the "Hey hey hey yeah yeah yeah!" being added to the vocals of the songs. He needs to SHUT IT with that **** it's lame so it is. In fact classing it as LAME is being too kind. That's not singing. At least back in the day he used to try not the Cazy Lunt doesn't even bother. I guess money and fame does that to some.

"Keep your head clear. Don't believe what you hear. Just play what comes from the soul. If money and fame is your fucking game. Then I hope you die fat and old." - The Swamp Song - Duff McKagan

Lars being mediocre or even being sub par - Hetfield too - is testament to their ability to make their **** work. Anyone here who says their four masterpieces are garbage I just wonder about as far your credibility.

So he's very modest, then? :dunno: :flaccid:

When they did their 30th anniversary bash at the Fillmore the comedian MC had a running joke all week. Since it was a Metallica celebration, he was gonna celebrate Metallica, so at random times during the evening he would do a call and response with the audience. It went a little something like this:
MC: Yeah?
Audience: Yeah?
MC: Yeah?
A: Yeah?
MC: Ooh!
A: Ooh!

The first time he did it in while Hetfield was on the stage Hetfield was a little surly afterward, but after doing it over and over all week Hetfield finally commented something to the effect of, "I guess I do that often, huh?" Duh!

My grandmother was half Danish.

We have produced the toughest super middleweight on the planet in Kessler and yeah, our women are hot. We're kind of special.

It's definitely not the case. If it were only so... in terms of his egos size that is haha

Sounds to me like there's more than me that's onto his game. Hey ye yeah ye yeah!. Irritating so it is.

Woah, woah.

Say what you like about Lars but don't be knocking James Hetfield!

I love Maiden and Priest as much as anyone, but to say that Metallica has not had the same level of influence as they have is simply biased and wrong.

That's not biased or wrong at all. I said it once and I'll say it again. First of all, Iron Maiden and NWOBHM in general had a huge influence on the US thrash metal scene - especially Metallica, Overkill and Anthrax. Secondly, Maiden continued to influence all kinds of metal bands just as much as (if not more than) Metallica did during their golden years. And lastly, after Metallica had released the somewhat questionable combo of Load and Reload, Maiden reunited with Dickinson & Smith and has ever since been arguably the biggest and most influential old school metal band in the world. Metallica on the other hand has been a laughing stock among most metal musicians ever since those days. They have managed to release only three studio albums since the crappy Reload: St. Anger which everybody hated (although I find it very interesting and cool), Death Magnetic which sounded awful and has some ok tunes that nobody really remembers and Lulu which sold like 234 copies.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
My reasons. He thinks he's better then he really is...and acts like it. He gives himself way to much credit for being the driving ***** of the band, and he's an attention whore. He's a good drummer...if you make your living as a musician, you're good at what you do....but he's certainly not in the top 10.

Yeah, it's biased.

I don't dispute IM/JP's influence on metal at all (I've been to several Maiden and Priest shows), but all you've done in this post is push an opinion.

Labeling one of the most successful metal bands of all time 'a laughing stock' is itself laughable. Who are 'most metal musicians'. Do you refer to their peers? Show me.

I think it was their 'Behind the Music' episode that I think Newstsed said "it's their baby," referring to James and Lars. They are basically the founders, include the late Cliff Burton.

I agree Lars is an arrogant POS - Lars was driving the ***** behind ******* Napster, I get that and think it was futile - but the dude is part of a legacy.

I won't support them outside of banging the living **** out of AJFA as hard as I can in the hood 'mongst the brothers to represent; my oldest ****** has been to like a dozen of their concerts and quite frankly I find them just too damn commercial and "big" (think filling domes - I only like being in smaller venues when I see acts now), but I have to bow down as a person who at least minimally considered going into the music business at one point myself. They just straight did it. At the end of the day their four masterpieces and bits and pieces of perfectness after just deserve a tiny bit of gratitude.

I remember on that 'Behind the Music' episode Lars talked about how he followed Motorhead until they just let him on their tour bus. He can't be the biggest POS on the planet and I would like to think he has repaid some of what he got from hi heroes back in some form or another.
