Well, I know that there is a MINIMAL difference in 7.62x51 vs. .308, but unless you are shooting serious match, or snipping for a living, they are the same. When I look at Springfield M1A's, and many other high grade military style rifles, and they list the caliber as 7.62mmx51(.308 Winchester), then I call it the same. As long as the ammo is SAAMI spec., you're good.
