Oh, XP definitely. Vista's alright, I guess. I'll get it after all the bugs are finally worked out. I always wait 2 years or so after they put a new OS out, so the product testers (AKA the consumers) can complain and get Microsoft to work out all the bugs.

both are great. the thing with vista is that it consume too much resources.

but i guess the people who say that vista sucks are right... kinda: microsoft decided to set the date of the new windows ("Windows 7") to Dec-2009, and not Dec-2010, as initially planned

I recently bought a new computer with Vista, and frankly there's not really any difference except visuals. I've yet to experience the infamous CPU cost of vista so I'd have to say it's basically just xp version two.
Too bad I can't vote for it as I voted for xp on my last computer :(

I have vista, and once you get rid of A LOT of the bullshit stuff you don't need, it runs about as good as xp.

As a graphic designer and photo editor ...Vista is the worst thing MS has ever done

You should explain why because that makes no sense to me. Here's why. Vista itself is not what you are going to use for your design work and photo editing. You are going to use software specifically designed for those tasks, like the Photoshop suite. All the tools needed are in the software you use.

Now one of the complaints about Vista is that it requires a lot of horses to run. So if you have Vista then you have the resources to run cpu intensive tasks. I have most of the Photoshop products and running them on my Vista machine is 1000 times better than using them on my XP machine. It never slows down, I don't have to wait for modifications to render, animations are always smooth and I can run several of the products at one time. I've never had to reboot the machine to regain memory and it has never crashed.

So what makes Vista itself bad for graphic design and photo editing?

XP because Vistashit is shit and it is basically a mac osx ripoff. You can use many older software with XP like office 2000, office xp, office 2003 as well as office 2007. With XP Professional service Pack3, you have the best professional OS available.
