I've said all along that stripping the moderators of their power and loosening the rules was directly responsible for the decline of the board.

Why are you doing this?
If you feel that you were banned unjustly send a message to Petra, Anders or a moderator explaining yourself and they probably will make you come back.
Acting like that is going to make them tighten the rules with IP banning which would be unfair if they ban an IP of an internet café, so not only you will be banned but other members that may try to access freeones from that place and I know places where many pcs are accessing freeones at the sme time.
Please stop.

It should also be said that different people have different definitions for what a troll is. And there has always been a pervasive sub-group here that will play the troll-card just because they don't like/approve of what someone else is posting. There was a brief member years ago that liked posting avant-garde artwork. Well, this was just beyond the fuckin' pale with the establishment around here, because they were absolutely merciless with the poor guy. So he up and left, and I thought it was a damn shame. Conversely, I never saw the big deal with Sir Fartsalot, but no, tar and feather the bastard and set his nutz on fire. And then there's luis1972 (or whatever his name is). The most harmless and unobtrusive poster we have. So let's gang up and beat him to death with tire-irons. And of course, everyone's favorite (until someone else comes along) whipping boy, Assari. Sure, he's annoying. And hey, if he was twice as annoying, he'd still be only half as annoying as the people constantly bitching about how annoying he is.

If you're bitching about what the board is, what it used to be, why it can't be what you want it...you're the problem. From where I'm standing, the same people doing most of the complaining are the ones that aren't starting any threads, aren't directing attention to anything the rest of us might find interesting, and really aren't contributing much to the threads that they show up too. Who wants to disagree that Ulysses was the greatest poster we ever had? Well, if you yearn so heavily for the old days, step up and do what he did. And if you can't or won't, shut the fuck up.

When people enjoy coming here and posting, they think it's "better". When they don't, they think it "sucks".
Personally, I think it's pretty good now... at least it's better than when a certain poster was polluting the entire site with his narcissistic bullshit anyway. Once they (finally) took Fisher out back and put one in his head (once & for all), I think things have been getting steadily better.
As long as there are enough people here that I can have a decent/interesting conversation with (whether I agree or disagree with them), I think that's as much as I can ask for. Plus, with Sammy now "dead", seems like more OCSMs are showing up again - and it's not even Miss FreeOnes time!

Huh. I'm not sure the absence of Sam has made that much difference for me, and I was never much of a fan of the guy.
Maybe there's some truth to it though and I simply can't see it. If so, who knows... maybe we'll pick up some new regulars when Miss FreeOnes rolls around and some new/returning OCSMs get a feel for the board. Of course, that said, as long as Harley is here I'm good to go... :thumbsup: (yes I have a one-track everything and actually I'm pretty fine with that :dunno

I think it is hard to deny that there has been an improvement in general in the talk section, mostly politics, with Sam and Mariah not around. There's less fear someone will post guys in black-face, or you'll just get mowed on for no reason and then told your life sucks because you don't have a boat. More people seem to be participating in the conversations, too.

I pretty much stopped having interactions with him awhile back - there was just no point. But as Dirk said, I think there's been an overall improvement in Talk (and the Politics and Sports subforums) since they dealt with him. And with that friendlier/less hostile environment, it seems like more OCSMs are venturing in here again.
As a kid, I cried when they shot Old Yeller. But when Petra/Roald/Anders put one in Old Sammy, I :nanner:
