Having to get rid of all pubic hair is a fairly recent phenomenon. Even back around 2000, it wasn't so unusual for girls to be seen with at least some pubic hair... even if it was just a little triangular patch. But now, especially on here, you see guys (mostly) talking about how girls with pubic hair aren't clean or hygienic and they're gross.For just the reasons you listed (bumps and razor burn, etc.), in real life, I prefer that a girl not do that to herself. It really isn't a pretty sight. The average girl (who isn't a model) probably doesn't spend a lot of time staring at or inspecting her pubic area. The guy she's with probably looks at that area more than she does (if he's lucky). And I'm not a prude, but even if I know it's not a problem, anything that looks like a rash or red bumps really does put me off, even if I try not to be bothered or turned off by it. My girl has pretty sensitive skin. So if she gets too aggressive with her shaving, love her though I may, the results, after about day 2, are not the least bit attractive. Plus, I'm actually a guy who likes a neatly trimmed little triangle. Luckily, she no longer feels the social pressure to go nuts with the razor (or laser) and she's now gotten a bit more "natural" in her appearance. :clap:
I don't typically shave all that often if I don't have to shoot. I usually shave about... probably twice a month. I shave and let it grow in a bit, for about a week or so, and then shave again. If you shave too soon after shaving the first time, the red bumps will be even worse, so I don't bother. Then sometime during the month my monthly visitor will arrive, and I will wait to shave until after it's gone. If I have a shoot, I won't shave for about a week and a half before the day of the shoot (I shave the morning of), that way it's as smooth as possible for the photos.
There are multiple reasons I like keeping it shaved. First, like you mentioned, most guys nowadays prefer it that way. Second, I personally feel cleaner with less hair down there. And third, I simply don't like the way hair feels down there.
But otherwise, I would probably only shave every once in a while if I wasn't a model, and the rest of the time I would keep it neatly trimmed. I would only shave when I planned on getting laid or when the hair starts to bother me.
For models, adult models anyway, unless we're shooting for a specific niche that prefers all natural pubes, we typically have to keep our bodies looking the way we do so we can appeal to the widest audience. Notice the word "typically". Most guys seem to prefer it shaved, but there are also many guys who like landing strips or very neatly trimmed. So sometimes we're able to not have to always keep it shaved.
Also, a lot of photographers, directors, etc. specifically ask the girls to shave.
Basically, as models, for the most part, we have to do whatever it is the majority wants us to do. Our own personal tastes and opinions are not always taken into consideration.

People have been removing it for thousands of years, it just comes down to personal preference and what looks and feels best for you - rather than the latest in trends

Interesting thread. Story: I was in Prague's Sex Machine Museum a couple of years ago. When you first enter - and you go all the way to the back, they have OLD, B&W porn movies.
