What is wrong with our society?

In today's society there are many things which are becoming everyday occurrences which would have been unheard of as recently as 10 years ago. Mass ****** suicides, ****** cruelty, and ********** are among some of the things that I would rarely ever hear anything of back then, but seem to come up in the news at least once a week.

Why? What are we doing that is inciting people to commit such deplorable acts? Is it ******** on television and video games? Is it increased stress in our daily lives? Does it have something to do with bioengineered food producing chemical inbalances in peoples' bodies? Where is this all leading us to?

I just thought it would be interesting to get different peoples' opinion on the matter.

its been going on for a while iwould even longer than 10 years, unfortunatly there is no end in sight w/ all the differnt forms of media today it just adds fuel to the fire and these autrocities will continue on.

These things were unheard of because the media and it's capbabilities where not as prominent 10 years ago, eg. the internet and stuff.

Whats wrong with our society is the people in it. It will never be solved as long as humans have the instincts and desires they are born with ie. power, authority, greed etc.

10 years ago we didn't have the internet to read about all this stuff.

It's nothing new, it's just picked up by the media a lot more often.

Then of course, you have the problem of copy-cats. Which multiplies the problem...

Some depressed/crazy school *** see' a school shooting on the TV and thinks "Hey, I want to be on the news just like that".

edit: Gunner already beat me too it!

I think it pertains to an overly large philosophical debate within America. I say America because we are the world leader and these incidents that you mention have all happened here. Other countries may have a lunatic to do something but it doesn't seem to cover every week like it does here, lately.

Philosophically, it all boils down to "What is an American today? What does it mean to be an American?"

We aren't a close-knit nation like other, smaller nations are. We have too many people that don't want to think for themselves. We have too many people that let corporations or religious organizations do the thinking for themselves.

We must find a way to take control of our own lives, build more engaging communities which make people feel happy to be alive, basically.

Rampant, no hold's barred, freight-train conspicuous consumption is taking our country down and pulling us apart...basically..I believe.

It's the same reason we have all this bullshit PC crap. The gap between rich and poor has become virtually uncrossable, and the lines for success redrawn so far above anyone's reach that it's ridiculous. 50 years ago if you had a white picket fence and 2 cars you were a success. Now you need a chain of hotels and several television stations and a private jet to be considered affluent. This leads to hopelessness and despair followed by depression and boredom and the whole "Can't win, don't try" attitude. We're on a steady spiral toward self destruction, of that I'm sure, just not sure how long it'll take, so in the meantime I'll keep busting my ass because if I can buy my 8 month old ******** her first car, put her through college and maybe give her a little financial headstart in life, then I'll be satisfied.

These things have been happening for thousands of years. As media outlets increase more information will reach the public.

I believe broken families and religion/conservatism/prudishness have a lot to do with it.

√ Too many psych med prescriptions (prozac)

√ Too much "gamer" culture

√ Music culture

√ Too many new and ambitious politicians

√ Too many people believe lies if their repeated enough.

I believe that it is the media that shapes the people not so much the government.

√ We've become too diverse for our own good. Diversity itself is fine, but not when the social engineers get their dirty hoofs on it.

√ Teachers no longer teach ! . . . and they don't even know it !!
All one needs to do is open some of the modern publik school texts of today. Garbage in Garbage out !

√ Too much immigration, both legal and otherwise. There used to be a quota system in place. The census would be used as a tool to effectively figure how many new immigrants would be sustainable at a particular time. Now it's Y'ALL COME

√ One could also argue that attorneys have, over the years, created a terrible atmosphere in the context of how individuals live their lives. America has, by far, the most "law - yeahs" (lawyers) per capita in comparison to the rest of the world. Frivolous lawsuits (too many)

√ Finally, the heightening of taxes and a womans "liberation movement". of the 60's & 70's have, in effect, ****** or influenced decent women to work and not marry. If there was a marriage, it quickly ended, leaving a single distressed ***** in its ****

I'll go with increased stress, overworked and underpaid, employers expecting too much, chemicals and hormones in our food, and so on.

My mommy divorced my ******, and I'm glad she did. If they HAD stayed married, I think I'd be a psycho. I'm much happier this way.

our society gotta change the attitude towards fucking. the more sex, the less depressive suicidal bullshit / ********. a lot of bullshit happens with people when they ain't got no pussy for a long time. at least prostitution should be legalized!
and, of course, we need more free porn ;)

Is it ******** on television and video games?

imo yes ******** in those and some other forms of 'entertainment' are major contributing factors

Too many psych med prescriptions

Yes. As critical as they are to those who absolutley need them they are seriously overprescribed for those who don't.

I'm sure they asked themselves this very question 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 50 years ago...

To one degree or another I think this question has always been asked, and of course it's true that these acts have always existed.
Those who pointed out how our perception has been affected by the proliferation of mass media and the broader content that's now available/permissable made an important point.

Society sucks because people suck. Thats just how it is, its how its always been. Its in our nature to succumb to our desires. If that desire is to **** someone, or shoot people, or whatever, then thats what the person will probably do. :(
If it really is more common now than it used to be, then we can only really guess what is causing it because we'll never know for sure. Maybe life is just more stressful now than it used to be.

√ Too much "gamer" culture

Pleaase don't say that :|

I am a gamer, and playing video games doesn't make me want to **** people.

Games are a kind of escapism, you're imagining you're someone else doing something else.

Most people can tell where the game ends and reality begins. There are always a few idiots who can't, but if we went by that statistic we'd need to get rid of every modern form of entertainment!!

xx

something to do with bioengineered food producing chemical inbalances in peoples' bodies?

Not bioengineered but additives certainly alter mood. Poor parenting and excessive amounts of E numbers given to **** certainly effect society. I've worked with young people, I have seen the effects they have.
