Mass genocide and assumption of territory?

The Iroquois and Algonquin tribes would have unified their Native American brethren and formed the greatest nation on Earth.

If the America's wasn't colonized I think it would a native american colony with loads of forests and also I think the europe or perhap the world would have been a whole different place.

An anthology of alternate world histories... Was it a book or part of a blog on the internet? Do you remember the title? It sounds really interesting. I'd like to read it if you can remember the title or where you found it.

Good thread. Thanks.

BTW... like other alternate/"what if" versions of history that I've read ("Fatherland" and the various theories on what would have happened in Europe, specifically regarding the Dark and Middle Ages, had the Roman Empire not declined and fallen), it's fun to think about but there's no real way to know.

No difference whatsoever.
But: History might have taken a different course had we focused less on colonizing and more on civilizing the Americas.

There is no plausible way to imagine the Americas not being colonized. What were they going to do, keep sailing right on by this huge land mass? Of course not. It was the wealth of fishing and timber that brought the earliest explorers/entrepreneurs here. So it was inevitable that settlement would eventually occur. I'm not trying to be a buzzkill here, but if the concept was valid then, by extension, the British Isles would have never been settled either.

I honestly don't understand the difference.

Why save the world, when you can rule it?
You would all be speaking German right now.

No, we'd all be speaking Russian.
The vast majority of **** casualties occurred on the Eastern front, you americans can say what you want but the fact remains that you did NOT save the world, so kindly can it :)

It would be as developped as Africa. But without the ethnic conflicts.

Many reliable sources suggest that Chinese settlers were here eons before the Euro settlers, the big question is, why was their settlement (or occupation if you like) as weak as it was?

. . . Don't get me started on this investigation! I'm getting the hell out of the house on this beautiful afternoon and that's that!

The Russians never would have fought the Germans had Hitler not decided to invade. He did so because he hated the Slavs and wanted land, resources and future living grounds for his Aryan society. Russia almost lost and they were on the brink had America not entered the war, causing Hitler to shift his resources. If there had been no America, the armies of Western Europe likely would have been larger and more advanced. England and the Allies would have won the war, and Russia would have likely sustained much more loss than it did.
