We're finally getting ready to move to the new version of vBulletin! However, I've got some good news and some bad news for you.

The good news? vBulletin 4 is pretty slick looking AND there is mobile support! So using the board with your phone will become a whole lot easier!

We're also going to have a few new features to offer OCSMs so they can really rev up their interaction with you guys! They're going to be able to post on the blog that's connected with the board AND run their own groups!

Don't worry. We're probably going to offer groups to regular members that hit a certain milestone as well!

Now for the bad news. FreeOnes Raymond has been working pretty hard trying to get things set up so we can make the upgrade in the next month or two. However, we've come up against a pretty big hurdle.

Reputation and post count.

The new version of the board doesn't support all the customizations we've done over the past several years and due to how the new board works technically...it looks like we're going to be forced to reset both reputation and post count to 0.

We will be able to populate the new board with all the threads that we currently have, but no username will be attached to them. It'll revert back to "guest."

Raymond is working hard on this issue so hopefully he can find some way around it...but I just wanted to let you know what to expect so you can save your favorite rep comments and posts!

How is that not basically the same as kicking the whole membership off the board???? That sounds crazy!!!! Why even bother being a member??? Seems like FO does something like this every two years or so by resetting rep points but this seems pretty extreme. If the new software can't migrate the essential features of your board, then why in the hell are you going to be using it?????

If there's not a workaround for this and the new software is implemented anyway, it'll be a serious blow to this board. I hope enough people chime in to let the mods know what a horrible fucking idea this is.

Didn't get me, Petra. I knew.

But that was a very well constructed April Fools. I'm guessing that at least some of the things you said about vBulletin's new features are true. That's the way to really make people believe your joke at first..

Of course there are new features that are true in the post.

- Groups. We're going to let the OCSMs create and moderate their own groups. Then later down the road we'll open it to vetran members to create their own groups as well.

- Blog. The new version of the board comes with a blog feature. The idea is to have OCSMs use this so they have 1 account vs the 2 they have now for the board and blog. I don't know if we'll let others post on it as well...again, it's a brand new feature that I haven't played with yet.

But, the BS about the rep and post count not migrating over...everything is fine in that regards. It all moved over and is correct.

Will I still have all my subscribed threads? That's all I care about.

That's actually a really good question, and one I didn't think about. I've made a note to check on that one because it would be a pain if everyone lost subscribed threads. But as far as I've seen, profile settings moved over just fine.

If the makers of the board software would support the current version indefiantly, we wouldn't be moving over to the new version. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. They will stop supporting it eventually and to make sure the move to the new version isn't a fly by night operation, we rather do it now so it's not the mess it could be. ;-)
