what about he Rumor that zuffa (owner of UFC) has bought TNA?

UFC buys Strikeforce. I have heard that as a definite.

It's more than likely just another Rumor that TNA was bought by Zuffa.

Other Rumors: Spike To Purchase TNA, Vince Asked About Buying TNA, What if UFC and TNA combined, Vince McMahon on potentially buying TNA, and on and on.

Joel Gertner Speaks Out – Death Of ECW, Brief TNA Stint

Before there was “Woo, woo, woo”, there was “Well, well, well”. Finally, after literally a decade of off and on messaging the Quintessential Stud Muffin, we beat him into submission and got an exclusive interview with him. It was worth the wait.

This interview is provocative. It provokes thought! And, behind the lyrical miracle that is the Quintessential Stud Muffin lies a very well educated student of our business. This interview explores Joel Gertner’s past in our business and also gives some perspective on where he would like to go in the future.

The interview also covers the rise and fall of ECW, his take on the matter, and his excitement to be a part of Extreme Rising who just crowned its first World Champion, none other than our last guest, Stevie Richards.

This interview, as well as Stevie’s and over 400 interviews we’e conducted over the past decade, can be heard in MP3 format and viewed on youtube by going to our official site, WrestlingEpicenter.com. Be sure and check us out on Facebook as well and buy something from our official store! We bring you these interviews for free because we love what we do. But, we need your help to help us cover our overhead.

JOEL GERTNER:

- James welcomes Joel to the show and he says that he is doing pretty well. He is taking many Independent bookings and is even taking a part in the Extreme Rising shows. He puts them over as very entertaining and exciting, and a great showcase for the original ECW talents.

- Joel says that the reason ECW nostalgia continues to survive is because it was a revolutionary product that reached out to the fans as much as possible. He also states that ECW’s use of the internet back in the day helped them get a leg up and build their fanbase early on. He also credits ECW with giving fans a “complete Wrestling experience” as ECW was able to provide just about everything a wrestling fan could want.

- He started in the business really young. He began with ECW at only age 20 and he attended at small wrestling school run by Pete McCay. He lists Bobby Bold Eagle as an influential trainer at the facility. Among the talents he met there were Devin Storm, Chris Kanyon, & Jason Knight.

- Joel only took one class as a wrestler and realized that wasn’t where he would be best utilized. That was when he decided to get into non-wrestling roles like ring announcing, time keeping , and managing.

- In 1995, he went to an ECW show and approached Paul Heyman and offered to be a part of ECW’s New York crew. Heyman told him right away that he had the job and the rest is history.

- In telling the story of how he came to be a manager for The Dudley Boys, it came shortly after he became a heel ring announcer and it just transitioned into him being the mouthpiece for The Dudleys. Having Gertner with The Dudleys was able to focus their heat and get the perfect version of the stable together.

- With some of his recent work, Gertner has been able to be more of a straight ring announcer. He doesn’t want to fully break away from his work in ECW because it is a lot of fun for him to do, but he does want to show that he isn’t just a one trick pony.

- When asked about ECW’s closing down, he says that he is “the wrong person to ask”. He did alot of on camera work and helped in production, but the business side of the company is not something he was involved with. He doesn’t know what went wrong or why it ended the way it did. As for why the deal with TNN went through, he thinks that WWF getting into talks of moving to TNN sort of left ECW without a home.

- Joel puts over his time in ECW and calls it one of the best times of his life. He also mentions that most within the company were happy being the number 3 company and loved the energy and charisma that they were able to capture.

- His short run at the beginning of NWA:TNA during the weekly PPV era is brought up. When asked if it bothered him that Don West shouted “Who cares?!” at him, he says it didn’t bother him because he was a heel and he felt that the more heat, the better. Joel was let go along with several other talents from TNA when it hit is initial financial problem within the first few months.

- He promoted and started the MXW promotion. He enjoyed working on it and ran some great shows in the New York area. He does think about bringing it back and doing other shows in 2013. He also plugs his website, MXWwrestling, net where fans can buy DVDs of previous events. He also prides the show as being “Athletic Artistry” and as having little in the way of backstage politics.

Daniels Speaks Out – Staying In Shape, His Goals & More

Kayfabe Kickout recently interviewed TNA star Christopher Daniels. Here are some highlights:

Daniels talks about staying in shape: “What I do I try different things ahead of time, I don’t get stuck in one rut and I don’t do the same workout for more than a month at at time. I’m very interested in keeping my endurance up, my stamina up, I keep my rest periods short and I try to do as much compound movement as i can. Not isolation, but a lot of compound exercises, stuff designed to work the whole the body, to get the full body workout. I do a lot of yoga, it keeps you flexible and you recover from injury quickly and I try to keep my heart rate up the entire time. I don’t spend hours upon hours in the gym, I go in for about an hour at at time and that’s how you get the best results.”

On his long term goals: “Well I’m just gonna have fun until I stop having fun, if it ever became more work than it was fun I said to myself I was gonna get out. If I can’t wrestle at the same level, or at the top level that I want to wrestle I’m gonna get out. I feel like I’m wrestling the best matches of my career, I’m in the best shape of my life. I can wrestle 25 or 30 minute matches if I have to, so at this point in my career I’m nowhere close to hanging up the boots.”

His classic match with AJ Styles and Samoa Joe at TNA Unbreakable 2005: “It’s the one match that I’m complimented on the most and it’s the best match that we’ve done in the Impact Zone. I’ve had some great matches, I’ve been fortunate to work with a lot of great wrestlers. That was such a special crowd that night, they were so psyched to see three guys that were TNA originals wrestle in the main event, in a style that they can appreciate in the X-Division and all the stars were aligned that night for that particular match.”

I'm off to the Impact tapings in Manchester on Friday and Hemme has tweeted that she had Brooke (Tessmacher) both have the flu and will miss "at least" Nottingham tomorrow. This makes me a sad panda, I hope Brooke recovers. I was really looking forward to seeing her arse up close.

I'm sure I'll have a great time either way, in their five tours of Britain I've seen TNA nine times and always enjoyed it. Sting~!! [/markout]

TNA Leaving Impact Zone Permanently

TNA will move out of the Impact Zone permanently once they tape their “One Night Only” PPVs there in March. They are ending their lease with Universal Studios Orlando and after the tapings they will take their production, rings and sets.

They have been regularly taping TV there since leaving the Nashville Fairgrounds in June 2004. TNA is getting rid of the costs of the live monthly PPV and the Impact Zone and using the money into running tapings on the road every week.

Angelina Love Says She Turned Down TNA

TNA Wrestling revealed this week to VIP ticket holders that a Knockouts-exclusive pay-per-view event will be taped on Sunday, March 17 at 1:00 p.m. at the iMPACT! Wrestling Zone in Orlando, Florida. In addition to current stars, organization officials will apparently be utilizing former female talent as Angelina Love revealed on Twitter Thursday that she was contacted to appear at the “One Night Only” series event. She, however, has declined to appear.

The five-time TNA Women’s Knockout Champion was asked if she will be on hand for the show and responded, “They asked me but I politely declined.”

In addition to the event, TNA will tape TNA 10 Reunion that day, which is billed as a “celebration of the stars from the first 10 years of TNA.”

I can't blame her after the way TNA treated her.

TNA will have to come up with enough money, a nice benefit package, and storyline agreements to get her back.

Firing "Brother Love" would be a good idea.

TNA Mourns The Passing of Wrestling Legend Jackie Fargo

On June 24, 2013, the wrestling industry lost a pioneer. *We are thankful for the legacy that Jackie Fargo leaves behind and saddened by his passing.

Article

Jackie Fargo (May 17, 1928 - June 24, 2013)

Memphis Wrestling Legend Jackie Fargo Dies

Memphis wrestler Jackie Fargo, known for his trademark “Fargo Strut,” swore to the bitter end that he could still take Sputnik Monroe. “Easy,” he said. Now that the Fabulous One has been called on up to join Monroe in that big cage match in the sky, maybe the two legendary grapplers can settle things once and for all.

Jackie Fargo, easily one of the most popular and influential wrestlers to ever work the Memphis territory, died in hospital, Monday, June 24, after being found unconscious in his home Saturday. The 85-year-old Fargo had been struggling with congenital heart disease.

Fargo was a mouthy, peroxide blonde, heel brawler, who held numerous titles over the course of his lengthy career. Like most pre-WWE wrestlers he worked several territories, but was most closely associated with Memphis where he co-owned the Southern Frontier Lounge & Restaurant with Country singer/deejay Eddie Bond who passed away in March. Fargo and Bond were also instrumental in launching Jerry Lawler’s career... as a sign-painter.

Lawler started working outlaw wrestling shows in West Memphis while he was employed as both a sign painter and deejay with Fargo and Bond.

"I remember going into Eddie's office when he was on the phone," Lawler told The Memphis Flyer in a 2007 interview. "He motioned for me to sit down and pick up the other receiver. And it was Jackie on the other end. He didn't like that I was talking about these outlaw shows on the radio... And he was saying, 'The kid doesn't need to be over there wrestling with those punks. Maybe we needed to get a bunch of the real wrestlers together and drive down to West Memphis on Saturday night and break some arms.'"

It was all a bluff, and Lawler called it. No arms were broken, and a week later Fargo invited Lawler to fight on TV in Memphis.

Fargo admired Lawler and called him the “smartest guy in the business.” Like Lawler he’d also gotten his start wrestling outlaw in South Carolina under the name Dickie Bishop.

I suppose it’s true to say I Idolized him,” Lawler said of Fargo in his autobiography, “It’s Good to be the King (Sometimes).

Fargo appears in Memphis Heat, an exhaustive, entertaining documentary about Memphis wrestling.
