Well where it comes from is from the 'golden age' of porn (1978-1990) where the prevailing attitude among producers was 'if we don't see the money shot, we don't really have a movie.' Indeed that's kind of how the nick name 'money shot' came into being. And it was something that just became part of the culture of the industry, even though as you pointed out, the practice has very little in common with what happens in 90 percent of the bedrooms of America. It's really only been in the last 10 years or so that we've seen a gradual shift away from that thinking- and thank heavens because it's long overdue.
