TinEye problem

I have TinEye installed in my Firefox and whenever I use it (right-click on a pic) on FreeOnes BB, I get one result, a picture of a FreeOnes banner. The only way I can get TinEye to work (on this site) is to save the pic and then go to the TinEye website and upload it for search. I don't have to do this on other sites. Does anyone know why this happens on FreeOnes BB?

TinEye is a reverse-search engine. You upload/send it a pic and it searches through it's database of approximately 1.3 billion pictures and then submits results to you of what websites have the same pic. It is quite useful when trying to ID someone.

I know quite certainly why that happens. You have to be logged on to the forum in the first place in order to be able to see attachments. When tineye tries to fetch the image from the board, it of course fails to do this because tineye cannot supply any valid authentication which would enable to log on to the board and thus be able to view and download the attachment. That's why it just gets the images it can find, including the FreeOnes banner.

That will happen on any other forum or site that requires registration to view pictures. It's not limited to the board here.

And yeah, it's somewhat pathetic that no one else responded seriously to this. FreeOnes is an extremely good porn forum but certainly not a good board to talk about technical issues..

It's lucky I saw this thread. I deleted a bunch of subscriptions a few weeks ago, because of the deluge of emails I was getting. I went from 6,000 subs to less than 200.

I find a partnership with tineye and FreeOnes extremely unlikely. Tineye doesn't allow pornography in their terms of service:

Thankfully it doesn't look that they've exactly been eager in deleting the porn / nude pictures that have made their way to their index so far.. and as a pervert, I don't think that tineye really gets used for much else than finding porn.

I have a lot more to say on duplicate image detection, actual tineye-like features for detecting similar images and organizing porn in a better way, but I think that discussion would need a dedicated thread for it. Not posting it here yet.

After I created this thread in January 2010, one of the mods explained to me why I was having that problem. Way back then, I suggested they partner up with TinEye, but obviously that tree didn't bear fruit, so I have another idea: Maybe FreeOnes could buy-out TinEye, change the TOS and run it as a division of FreeOnes. I think this scenario is far less likely, but stranger things have happened.

Eh..? I think you misunderstood me, Connor. I'm not talking about having more loose algorithms for similar image detection that would dramatically increase the amount of irrelevant results. That would indeed be a very bad idea. What I am interested in are the algorithms on how exactly tineye is doing it and I think I have some educated guesses on that (histogram matching and wavelet analysis used simultaneously, for example). That sort of functionality would be very useful for searching pictures locally on one's own hard drive. After all, porn collections tend to get pretty large nowadays..

By the way, Gazopa has been shut down. Good riddance.

Edit: FreeiOnes buyout of tineye would be awesome.
