This is so annoying...any other recent grads?

I know it sux. I went to film school and ended up working at regular old offices. It's crap. Worst of all? I am actually job hunting right now. been doing so since July.:(

that's my sister. she got her BA in cinematography. Got a job as a manager at Blockbuster video. went back to school to get certified as a medical transcriptist, the job sucked. Now she works at an office filing paper work for insurance claims and she's going back to school to try and get another degree in graphic design, so she can at least do something that is halfway related to art.

I didn't go to college. heard too many stories like these ones, and I don't know what the fuck I want to be when I grow up. About a month ago I just got my first job that pays more than minimum wage, although the hours are shit and the schedule is all over the place.

This is why I enlisted in the Navy. I did it in the beginning of Summer, 2008, so I did not know about the recession. But, now, I'm glad that I did for two reasons: I want to work for the government (I hope IRS) and the Military does not lay off.

I need a job, and more importantly, I need some crazy chick to spice my life up. Post college, everything slows down. :(

I've been wondering since commencement last Friday what the socially traditional next step is, because a whole chunk of life-time has opened as the scholastic drama of college has ended (thank God/damn it!). I think that I do want to get married before I'm in my mid-40s (I'm 32), but - however unlikely this seems - I'd like to make adult and non-adult movies in my future as well. I guess that I'm unsure how much this "post college...down" time will appeal to me because I'm unsure my life goals can mesh.

We bust our ass to get thru grad school only to finish and find that there are no jobs available. I am at my wits end here, I have spent so much money completing grad school...and now find employers want "experience" and not "theoretical" knowledge!

Arrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

:fight:

I know all about that. I spent the first year after college working a shit job making 6 bucks an hour. But just be patient and a good one will come along thats how it worked for me.

Holy Toledo ! If that isn't something you don't want to conceal !
The government surely has much to recover for it's own wrongdoings.

The future tax schedule is going to be ugly, confiscatory, Scandinavian like even ! Oh well, at least it's depression proof.:o

I agree, except I think that the IRS will have to police more tax-preparers and less tax-payers. If the IRS wants people to pay all of the tax bill, being Big-Brother hasn't worked nor will. As backward as it seems, the IRS must make us want to pay, make us see what we're paying taxes for.

Research isn't considered experience?
I don't know how the education system works there but her you have 4 years of bachelor and then you can go get your master. Well at least in most cases.

In my case i had to do an internship of 1 year and i still work there part-time. Now I'm doing a 2 year master course and the jobs opportunities are huge. The main reason i kept working there is for the experience and of course the great salary.

Yeah i picked engineering but i have friends working in a different sectors and they don't seem to have a problem getting a job, yes they have their bachelor/master degree ( funny i now realize that i don't have a fucking clue what my friends do for a living ).

During my applications i always mention the projects and reaches i have done and of course it doesn't make sense to apply for a job i don't have the knowledge.

Maybe you can try starting at "the bottom" and work your way up.

Anyways don't get married :p and good luck finding a job.

this is why I didn't give a shit about college. No matter how much schooling you have, you will never get any experience!

there is a lot to say for 'real life' experience. absolutely. but then RLE doesnt supply fresh, nubile 18 year old girls every year. :D

Go to a Book store, they have good references. If you don't find something there you must be in the wrong place. You will always find what your looking for in the Libry

The even sadder part is by the time any economic hardship is over and there are jobs available for what your degree is in they are going to start telling you they don't want you because you haven't worked in that field or studied it in for so long. You will be doubly screwed then.

Which colleges have the most generous scholarship programs at PhD level?

I heard American in DC is free and fast with its moola.

Research is probably considered experience when applying for a college teaching job wherein you must publish any research in the course of teaching.

All the engineering students who I talked to before say the same thing that you're saying. I believe that the most difficult - therefore, best-paying - college majors are engineering and accounting. I was going to study engineering until I considered how difficult Calculus would be. That, and I hate studying theory-bound disciplines like Physics.

Yet, I research Physics and Economics on my own. Strange.

As for why some people don't have job whereas others always do, I suspect it probably comes down to interviewing skills. In my opinion, the degree gets the interview, the social skills get the job, then career.

Enlisting in the Military is a lot like starting at the bottom, for government workers without experience.

:looking around at friends and family:

They're working the same kind of job that I am.

They went to college.

I did not.

I saved myself THOUSANDS of dollars to work retail.

Yay me!! :nanner:

I totally agree with enterpri3e. I just finished a degree in Philosophy which is all theoretical. That's why I like to have back-up plans for everything. Have you tried government jobs? Those are sometimes recession-proof and positions like "intelligence analyst" at the FBI and such ask for theoretical knowledge. Just as long as you dont mind a background check and drug test lol......

I don't see how a drug test can get in your way. If you really find a job that you stop and think a second about and say to yourself. Man I can see this going on for a while you better go and get that man or else it is just going to drift away. Why else wouldn't it?

I've never done drugs. Government is an option, but its not a early pick if I had any choice.

Its really getting me down. I think the psychological stress is resulting is persistent super horniness.

or someone drugged you in your purest state of being and now it run through your blood until you can jerk it out. That would be foul wouldnt it?

What are you looking for? I don't know what I want either.

BINGO!

I dont know what I want. In a dream world, I'd work in the biz, but thats unlikely. Something where I can be creative, I love to write. PR officer, speech writer, working with a think tank...stuff like that.

You?

I love to write too. Give me a subject I can write for days or I can write for a hour to come up with anything. Writing was always my first passions, I picked it up as a child. I also love to work with computers. Not as much as I love to write. I love to learn different cultures and languages. Basically Language arts, and math. I had a 97 in algebra I could do my homework in the 2 minutes we had before class ended. Well, there a kind of weird story behind that, although it happened in class. Besides that, I would like to move to another country because USA isn't doing it for me. I didn't get past algebra. Ironic?
