The Unmentioned Serious Contender for 2016 POTUS

The person that the right should be worried about isn't Hillary (I know one of you who will say the right isn't worried but you're full of fucking horseshit!) it isn't E Warren or any of the other names that have been floating around recently. The person that I have been wondering about for the last 2 years why the fuck isn't the media front runner by now is Gavin Newsom, the former mayor of San Fransisco and current Lt Governor of California. The guy is a true progressive that is not only an extremely well-spoken articulate man who looks like a younger Mitt Romney without the 40 year stick in his asshole. The guy is painfully handsome and incredibly smart. He has made gay rights and the rights of minorities and the less fortunate an important issue since before it was cool.

He has made it known he wants to run for governor of California. I am afraid he wants to have it on his resume that he successfully ran the 8th largest economy in the world before he runs for president but that state is such a shit show it might not be a good move. I think he should make the move in 2016 as do many others. He's a real progressive who could win. Not only that he was married to a republican, the Faux news chick with the huge mouth Kimberly Guilfoyle who is pretty fucking sexy and no dummy.

If he runs the right will shit their pants because there is no one on their side who could stand at a podium in a debate and not look worn out frumpy and out of touch. that's a fucking fact.

Stay tuned

I've just perused his Wikipedia article. He sounds more or less like you describe - as well as another party establishment silver-spooned (potential) candidate. I can't see him being any different to the Democratic party mold as our current Democrats. At gunpoint I'd take him over, say, Hillary, but I'm not voting for Hillary regardless.

He'd have to convince me that he'd do something other than business as usual, and that's quite the task after Obama fooled me there for his first term.

By 2016, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi will rule the world.

The guy went against EVERYONE and actually ministered gay weddings himself when he was mayor of San Francisco. I point that out because he didn't cave to political pressure and said it might be the nail in his the coffin of his political career but he was doing what he thought was the right thing. He is also a big advocate for the rights of the handicapped and was the first one in California to require restaurants in SF to pay minimum wage to servers instead of the national $2.13 hourly that has been in place since 1983. The state followed suit when it was proven that restaurant businesses were not hurt at all by the wage hike.

He is an actual progressive which Hillary is not (anymore) Obama ran as a left leaning and steered to dead center and like a drunk driver he crossed over that center line too often IMO.

He would be a great choice for someone who would go to bat for the things he wants to get done. I think he might be too much of a pretty boy for a lot of people. big smile a lot of perfect white teeth and perfect hair. that rubs a lot of people the wrong way.

I really like him but so far everything points toward what you said he wanted to do first....become governor of California. Looks to me like he may have his eye on 2020 but if Hillary keeps stumbling and Liz doesn't run I don't think anyone would rally around Uncle Joe so perhaps Newsom could become a contender.

The guy does appear to be premium material in case of electability appeal. If I remember correct, Arnold left California calling it "Ungovernable", and this guy did very well.

(Mariah, if you talk about a person, best provide some link ;)

He is getting ready for re-election as Governor in 2018 as of now, but I imagine he might step up for 2016 in time.

As a Cal resident I would say; Harris (our Sec of State) has a 75% chance of moving into the open US Senate seat, and Newsom 75% chance for Governor. For anyone to have a reasonable shot at President in '16 they have to be in by the end of the next quarter July 1st. So it isn't going to happen this political cycle. Oh and Arnold is a far better actor than he was as a Governor!

Never heard of him. Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems tp me that very few americans have heard of him. To run for POTUS, one needs tp be known, at least from the people who are actually interested in politics.

There's a lot of time between now and November of 2016 for him or anyone else to become "known". Nobody who is known was known before they were known. ya know?
