I'm a Christian but if I wasn't, I'd be tickled pink getting a gift for Christmas. They know that I'm an Athiest and don't give gifts just for Christmas. 8-5 says Athiests agree with me. Vote now.
I don't believe in religion, but I still celebrate the fuckin holidays!

In reality Christmas has been warped into a marketing and commercialism abomination that much of it has nothing to do with the religious aspect of it. It's marketed to pander to people's greed, and to maximize the profits of businesses.
It's hard to ******* the spirit of what Christmas is about any more than the mockery people have already made it. In that sense giving a present to an atheist isn't that much different than giving a present to a Christian.
Is it Santa who brings gifts to you at Xmas? Santa can be considered insult towards actual religious event in itself as completely unrelated "nice" guy, who just happens to visit at same date, brings gifts and diverts away from real meaning of the date. Origin of santa was from none of the countries that most people argue he comes from, he was very strict person who gave lash to naughty ********, but was nice for nice ******** and possibly giving them some simple toys, maybe explains where that one must be nice or no gifts scaring come after all. Scare adults with religion, scare ******** with Santa. For me Xmas hasn't ever had religious meaning, but it's meaning is more of date where families gather together, forget other things and enjoy the time with each other. Most people do not even realize that they add paganic items even on their Xmas trees, not forgetting how insulting some those items are placed next to their little angel statues.
Most holidays here are based to religious backgrounds, even most swear words are based on religious words. I'm not really religious and most countries who have higher education level than development countries tend to end up with atheists, as believing in god goes against common sense and logic to what schools teach. I haven't really cared for backgrounds of most of the religious holidays for a long time and I'm just happy that I have my free day. Jesus died? Oh, well whatever, good day to try some new drink... Yet, it's interesting enough that those holidays still exists with more and more people leaving churches, which tells how huge effect religions have made.
What about new year? Religious people celebrate new year, which unless I remember wrong, is based on worshipping some roman god for whose honor, month January is named after... Such a paganic rituals you have there... You can say that it's not right for non-religious people to have events which may have been based on some religious events, but in the end religious people aren't doing any better. They just live with their double-standards. How many people can even say they have honestly read whole Bible nowadays? I haven't read it, but apparently Koran is supposed to be interesting reading, but in the end, religions are nothing more than one big circus.
You might also want to take a note that most religions were ****** to people. People were scared to death if they didn't join or by other means. Churches are nothing more than another form of control next to kings and more people have been ****** for the name of religions than other wars. If people believe in gods, religion shouldn't really matter. They all share same basics, there is some existence who created the world, something good will happen if you live nicely, something bad will happen if you live bad. Main difference is that only words used, names and translations to describe these things change, thus saying believing in "gods" or not fits better. It's pretty much only 1 religion which looks down at each other religion and where belief is that everyone else are infidels who are all trash. I don't really care if people believe in their fantasy storybooks to make themselves look less insignificant or not, but when people come to ***** their **** on you or buy so called free tickets to the better place, that's just horribly wrong...
I'm just surprised to amount religious threads in porn website, which is such a sinful thing. You can still find salvation and join me to the dark void of nothingness. At least that is better than Hell right? I'd bet most of the religious people go to Hell anyway, since they don't really believe in god, but rather wish there was a god. If people really believed in god, they wouldn't be so sad when people die and there would be much higher amount of mass suicides, since why live alone here when one can join his loved ones to heaven easily enough...
I think therefore I am, our conscious is build in our brains, when that thing ticks off, there will be nothing but void. Live and enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs... That's pretty much my religious view in short.

Good stuff. Holidays can mean whatever people want them to mean. It's no different than what the Abrahamic religions did to pagan holidays, assimilating them into their religion to make converting people easier - before it was Christmas, people simply had winter festivals:

I agree with Anon here; holidays are an excuse to get the ****** together. Any more meaning you want to attach to it is up to individual choice, regardless of the holiday's origins.

But I agree on the overall point - pretty much all of the holidays have been warped by consumerism. But with capitalism that's inevitable. At least in the States Christmas can't begin until after Thanksgiving - here in Europe, Christmas stuff appears in stores basically right after if not before Halloween (which isn't as big a thing here anyway). So, assari, to answer your question: Christmas gifts contrary to the name have little to do with being Christian.
