Christmas is an important celebration for Christians and therefore is somewhat comical if atheist also celebrate the birth of our saviour.
If you participate in Chrismas meals and if you receive Christmas gifts you're doing it in honor of Jesus Christ.
Or 'cause you're hungry.
I accept gifts to make the giver feel good...I am noble like that. NOT to honor Jesus of Nazereth.

Good stuff. Holidays can mean whatever people want them to mean. It's no different than what the Abrahamic religions did to pagan holidays, assimilating them into their religion to make converting people easier - before it was Christmas, people simply had winter festivals:For me Xmas hasn't ever had religious meaning, but it's meaning is more of date where families gather together, forget other things and enjoy the time with each other. Most people do not even realize that they add paganic items even on their Xmas trees, not forgetting how insulting some those items are placed next to their little angel statues.

What about new year? Religious people celebrate new year, which unless I remember wrong, is based on worshipping some roman god for whose honor, month January is named after... Such a paganic rituals you have there... You can say that it's not right for non-religious people to have events which may have been based on some religious events, but in the end religious people aren't doing any better.
- en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ChristmasPrior to and through the early Christian centuries, winter festivals—especially those centered on the winter solstice—were the most popular of the year in many European pagan cultures. Reasons included the fact that less agricultural work needs to be done during the winter, as well as an expectation of better weather as spring approached. Many modern Christmas customs have been directly influenced by such festivals, including gift-giving and merrymaking from the Roman Saturnalia, greenery, lights, and charity from the Roman New Year, and Yule logs and various foods from Germanic feasts.
Pagan Scandinavia celebrated a winter festival called Yule, held in the late December to early January period. As northern Europe was the last part to Christianize, its pagan traditions had a major influence on Christmas there, an example being the Koleda, which was incorporated into the Christmas carol. Scandinavians still call Christmas Jul. In English, the word Yule is synonymous with Christmas, a usage first recorded in 900.
It's not any different. In reality Christmas has been warped into a marketing and commercialism abomination that much of it has nothing to do with the religious aspect of it. It's marketed to pander to people's greed, and to maximize the profits of businesses.
It's hard to ******* the spirit of what Christmas is about any more than the mockery people have already made it. In that sense giving a present to an atheist isn't that much different than giving a present to a Christian.

So, assari, to answer your question: Christmas gifts contrary to the name have little to do with being Christian.
