Even though Rosberg's hopes & dreams died as soon as the lights went out, I do give him a lot of credit for the way that he approached Lewis after the race. That showed class.

Fantastic season! I really enjoyed it overall. Course, if it had been my guy's car that broke down, I'd be cursing & swearing like a sailor right now. But still, great return to form by Williams. Fantastic season by Daniel "Mr. Smiley" Ricciardo. And my prediction is that both McLaren and Ferrari will not be so overjoyed with their two, new prima donna drivers next year... but we'll see. And just based on what I've seen of their motorsports program here in North America over the past 7 or 8 years, I'm not sure that the Honda Racing of 2015 bears much resemblance to the one from the late 80's through the early 2000's. But again, I guess we'll see.

What about everybody else here? Did you guys & gals enjoy the season overall? What did you like? What did you dislike?

The championship is being determined by the reliability of these pos power packages...

Nope, didn't make a difference. Even if Rosberg somehow managed to pass Lewis in the race (something he didn't manage all year), Lewis had 2nd in the bag. The championship was determined by Lewis winning a lot more races than Rosberg did and always coming out ahead when they went wheel to wheel.

Aside from a poor start, Rosberg did everything he could with an ailing car so credit where its due. However I think the faster Merc driver won so it was fair enough.

The season was mixed for me, having the 2 Mercs be the fastest at every track was dull and the other cars couldn't compete with them in a straight fight. Hoping next year is a lot closer in that regard. I guess its nice seeing a struggling team like Williams make a comeback this year, although I'm sceptical whether this season was a one off or if they can continue to be competitive next race. Ricciardo went into this year with nothing to lose and I fully expected Vettel to destroy him (like Hamilton did to Kovalainen) but it just hasn't happened and its been a horrendous year for Vettel.

I just hope to see Button in a competitive car next year, McLaren owe him his seat after he secured them 5th in the constructors while Magnussen put in another lacklustre performance.

p.s. sorry for the double post, I don't know how to quote 2 different people in one post :(

Well, even though I think we all knew this was coming, part of me is laughing (the part that's never liked Williams GP in the first place) and part of me is ****** (the part that cheered for Ayrton Senna as he went flying into Tamburello, in the lead for the final time, in a Williams). I know Williams needs the money, and so we can be relatively certain that placing Susie "31 Years Old and Never Won a Race in Her Entire Life" Wolff in the reserve seat brought at least a few million pounds and/or a reduction in the cost of the Mercedes power package next year... courtesy of her husband and Executive Director of Mercedes AMG, Toto Wolff. Hey, I know that's how it is in F1 now days; ride buyers, nepotism and (now) tokenism are just how it is in all but two or three long-standing teams at the very top. But that doesn't mean that I have to like it or accept it.

It just grates me that the highest form of motorsport, and one of the most successful teams in international motorsports, having had legends and champions in its cars, now has to have this nothing, this unaccomplished nobody, as a make believe "reserve driver" just to satisfy a doting husband and the whining of a public obsessed with politically correct feminism. It's perfectly fine to have women racing in F1. But how about finding one (or more) who has actual racing skills and isn't just hitched to Mr. Right???

Susie marries Toto in 2011 (I believe) and she magically goes from being a complete back-marker in DTM to being part of Williams GP in 2012 (just so happens Toto was a major Williams shareholder at that time too).

Riiiight... and my name is John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt.

I agree with you, I have nothing against her as a person but like various other drivers of the past she clearly isn't talented enough to be this far up the formulas. I dislike that Pastor Maldonaldo is mainly in F1 because of the huge sponsorship that comes with him but at least he's got the ability to score points if the car is reasonable. While sponsorship is still a big deal for drivers looking to rise through the ranks, I thought pay drivers who were not up to par were a thing of the past.

Caterham will be allowed to use the 2014 car for next season...

Caterham have been given dispensation to compete in 2015 with this year’s car should a buyer be found for the team.

The key decision was taken during last week’s Formula One Commission meeting in Geneva, and allows administration-hit Caterham an opportunity to be on the grid next year.

For a potential purchaser it now means there is no pressure to build a car for 2015, particularly as time is of the essence, and all the inherent costs that would apply.

With the decision to be ratified by this week’s meeting of the World Motor Sport Council in Doha, it would allow a new owner to at least be in F1 with a base on which to build for 2016.

From Kamui Kobayashi's instagram :D

Everything I've heard about Kamui says that he's a totally cool guy. That post just confirms it. I mean... he smokes, he drinks, he chases tail and now he calls himself a "perv". My man! :banger: I want so bad for him to get a seat in 2016, if not next year. Gene Haas, that's the guy you want! Hell, he's closer to being an American than most Americans! And he'd be a better choice than poor old Alexander Rossi.

So who is the girl there that he claims is the "#1 hottest white girl in Japan"? She looks familiar. It's not Sasha Grey, is it? :dunno: OK, I read the hole post. It is Sasha Grey. Interesting. So he smokes, he drinks, he chases tail and he hangs out with porn stars... and he will tell the world when a team isn't paying him on time! The dude needs his own reality TV show.

I reckon the race after Sasha Grey's tail is better than the other one :)

I been missing true men with actual character in the F1 circuit.

Well, the good news since the end of the season is that double points has been scrapped for this year (hooray!) and Button has retained his seat after all. Quite why it took them so long to decide/announce it I don't know.

Korea has been taken off the calendar. No real surprise is it... not the greatest of circuits IMO and the "fans" (or lack of) simply didn't turn up for the race weekends.

Honda, as a new entry this year have been refused permission to develop their engines - whereas all the other engine suppliers can. Anyone understand that one? Hardly seems fair.

About Button vs Magnussen, it was mostly a question of whether McLaren wanted to go with a steady performer who costs them quite a lot in wages or go with the younger driver who might continue to improve and is a lot cheaper.

Got a link to the Honda being refused permission to develop? Not heard anything about that before.

I obviously know that's what they were mulling over, it's just that I didn't see it as being quite such a difficult decision to make. I'd rather go with someone with a proven track record than someone who might potentially turn out to be a good driver - especially when he didn't really do anything of note last season after the first race.

Re: the Honda engine dispute, the FIA have since decided to let them develop their engines after all. The following snippet gives you the gist of it.

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/117386 said:
Honda has succeeded in its bid to convince the FIA to allow it some engine development during the 2015 Formula 1 season.

Following a meeting between the Japanese car manufacturer and F1 race director Charlie Whiting last Monday, the FIA agreed to consider tweaking the engine rules.

It came after Honda was left upset that rivals Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault would be allowed to introduce upgrades throughout 2015 while it had to stick with the power unit it has to homologate on February 28.

Honda felt that treating it in such a way was unfair and left it facing the prospect of losing ground to its rivals over the course of the campaign.

Following the meeting, the FIA has reconsidered its position and agreed that Honda can have some room to introduce developments, so it is treated as equally as possible to the current car makers.

So, come just next weekend, the unveils are beginning, and a few days thereafter, testing is on! Man, I am fired up. Of course, next weekend, the german premier football league is starting it's second leg, so I will go into some sort of overdrive. If you imagine me starting a football chat meeting in a community center, on every monday, an event especially directed at old, retired men to get out of the house, I will have so much fun.

Back on topic! Here is the link to the official race overview, starting middle of March

Having watched some footage of testing the cars do sound a lot louder this year. Not exactly pre-2014 decibel levels but definitely somewhere in between.

The whole sound issue isn't something that bothered me but watching some of the older races as I have been lately reminds you of the sweet engine notes we've been missing.
