The Johan appreciation thread

Sorry for calling out a member, but this thread is meant in all seriousness and not meant to demean and I'm fucking drunk.

Unlike others, I don't begrudge Johan showing an interest and weighing in on our affairs even when he's mistaken IMO. I'm actually kind of flattered that someone thousands of miles away would stay abreast (for the most part) of the goings on in the U.S. of A.

In other words, criticize Johan on his stances but not that he's taking a stance.

I love you all. thank you very much.

He only posts shit he reads from left wing sites and his interest in American politics is because he wants the USA to become Euro socialist. Fuck him and his jaunty beret.

I agree. You guys have to admit though that he knows way more about American politics and it's workings than any of us know about French politics. Just off the top of my head while I'm writing this post, I can only name the French PM(Valls), president(Hollande) and Le Pen, who is the leader of the right wing National Front. Other than that I couldn't tell you anything else about French politics. I don't know how their congress works, I don't know all the political parties and their ideologies and I don't know the current issues that are being debated in France at the moment. Johan speaks English so he can get on any English news site and read up on the issues. I, however, cannot get on Le Monde and read up on the news because I can't speak a lick of French

Aren't we all guilty of that? As a progressive I'll admit that I do often read liberal blog/sites and don't act like you and any of the other conservatives on here don't read conservative blogs/sites. We all do it as much as we don't like to admit it. We read them because we want to have our beliefs reinforced

You mean like The Atlantic? I skim Drudge and read the WSJ. I don't bother with conservative blogs.

ETA: I quoted animus when I meant to quote Iceman.

Damn it why do you keep bringing up that I lifted paragraphs from an Atlantic article. Why are you trying to sully my reputation as The Most Trusted Man on Freeones?

He knows far more about American politics then you'll ever know...I applaud his valuable efforts and political views. Sure we've disagree on some minor stuff cause i'm more of a Centrist (you guys called me an idiot, a socialist, communist or whatever) but overall, the dude definitely knows what's going on. Plus, he's not a hater. Fair trade people! Fair trade!

I don't agree with everything Johan posts, but I appreciate his input nonetheless. There's another Frenchman that posts that could burst into flames for all I care, but that's another topic.

About the only people on earth that look up to the French would be a Canadian.

Wow !
What could I say ? Thank you guys. I really mean it.
Please, someone rep Animus Fox on my behalf 'cause I cannot

I use to think that I have some basic knowledge about US politics and I try to use that knowledge to understand US news, forge myself an opinion and share it. Some of you may don't give a shit about the opinion of a foreigner. I can understand that. But I think it is interestoing to have a different perspective, an outside perspective. And if one of you guys would do the same about french news I would be interested (except if the person is a right-wing or a left-wing lunatic. Yeah, I know : some of you think I am a left-wing lunatic...)

Some haters often tell me to care about my country instead or theirs. I do care about my country, I do read the news of my country (of two different sources, one center-right (Le Figaro) and one center-left (the french version of the Huffington Post). Also I 'm quite proud to never have voted to every single election since I reach voting age.

I'm sure you know about former president Nicolas Sarkozy, don't you. He might run again in 2017.

I would say that I got interested in US politics and US news because US politics impacts the all world. And I'm not only speaking about foreign policy ; the economy as well : the 2008 financial crash was caused, partly, by the The U.S. subprime mortgage crisis.
French politics doesn't impacts the world as much as US politics do.

Why does that starship captain with the British accent, have a French sounding name? Gerard Depardieu should have been the captain.

sometimes drunk threads are regretted later on- is it legal to post drunk over state lines- lol

Some of you may don't give a shit about the opinion of a foreigner.

Yeah I'm not one of those. So much of what we do so greatly impacts the rest of the world that it only makes sense foreigners would want to weigh in from their perspective.
Which can sometimes be more objective than our own. Reminds me at times a little of getting relationship advice from somebody outside of it. They aren't blinded by being in the middle of it.
And we're supposed to be the big dog, right? The top of the food chain, as nations go. Secure in our relative superiority. So why (unless they're clearly clueless) do we get so flinty or aggressively defensive when we're taken to task by a foreigner?

We give more in foreign aid than any other country.

We carry far more than our weight when it comes to defending foreign countries and half of NATO don't even live up to their agreed percentage of contributions to defense based upon GDP. For some it is only 1 percent required and they can't even do that.

Most bitch and moan about the United States because we are the leading force for freedom across the globe.

It boils down to envy. Pure and simple.

There's an old saying, "clean up your own house before you start telling me how dirty mine is".

Britain are making strides to clean up their mess and they actually do carry their weight.

France and Germany are shitting the bed over and over again.

I'd rather have someone to hate my guts and respect me than to act like they like me to my face and talk shit behind my back.

Mind their own fucked up countries.
