Well the evidence is against you on this one. Not only were many of these financial institutions saved as a result of TARP they are now profitable enough to begin repaying it in less than a year. With respect to the financial institutions, it absolutely worked for protecting them against failing.
When other business sectors make a come back at least the country's financial backbone will be in place to help support them.

It saved them from going out of business for the time being. If a company cannot make a profit, then by all means let it go out of business. Bankruptcy is the market's way of cleansing itself. The market does not need the gov't to decide who can and who cannot succeed in the world. and that is exactly what the bailouts have done.

I'm sorry this is just wrong. Without bothering to look at any numbers look at the electoral map of the USA from the last presidential election. Note which states are blue and which states are red. Now apart from the glaring fact that the red states do a handy job of covering most of the confederacy - make of that what you will - would you then say that the states that went against Obama were noted for being the more affluent.

Majority figures since I started watching the exit polls in 1998 ...
Education:
- Democrat voters: HS Diploma or Advanced Graduate through PhD
- Republican voters: 2-4 College Graduates or lower Graduate education
Income/Wealth:
- Democrat voters: Near Poverty Level (below 2nd tax bracket) or below, or Existing Wealth (people not living on Income)
- Republican voters: Virtually all Income Tax Brackets above poverty, overwhelming majority of Small Business Owners in Top Income Brackets
Now in the 2008 election, the number of mid income earners did significantly vote for Democrat, making it really a non-difference with Republicans (at least within the margin of error), which was interesting to see, but not unexpected with the economy.
And the number of African Americans that voted Democrat (Obama) increased from just under 90% (it has been slowly decreasing 1-2% every election under Clinton and even for W.) to nearly 99%. But that is not surprising with Obama having an African immigrant for a father.
