The greatest rap ever?

Listen to Recovery and you'll change your tune. His flow is back to the Marshall Mathers LP days.

Em had one shitty record(Encore), and one that was decent, but not great, (Recovery). The guy was strung out as hell the entire time too, but some of the mixtape stuff he put out during that time was absolutely amazing.

The Recovery's "Won't Back Down ft. Pink", "No Love" ft Lil' Wayne, "25 to Life" and "Not Afraid" are the singles I've heard and got say it is the best I've heard from him in a while.

Glad he finally got off the drugs. His life and career suffered from his addiction but now he is back.

I do think this is the most famous rap in history. I welcome any naysayers but this song is knowon by everyone in America; it's done at NBA games, NHL games, NFL games, and you name it. It's not the greatest rap by a long shot but the shit is catchy. And the demographic that embraced it (the little white boys like me) blew that shit up. Everyone knows this rap today and it has been covered by several artists that aren't hip hop (congrats to Muggs on the greatest beat of rap history...or at least the tops of all time). Even today we are hearing it in the tire commerial they are playing right now.

But I nominate this one right here for the Freeones anthem:

I'd be welcome to hear if anyone has a better anthem for the FO than this. I think this one fits though. :hatsoff:

This might be a bit biased...but the best 16 bars...are the ones I dropped on the only rap I did back when I was 16...man, I was the bomb! :D

I gotta say, even though Nas has consistently been the better lyricist before and during their feud, Jay-Z's song "Threat" is one of the greatest he ever wrote. Full of arrogant swagger and intricate wordplay, this gem from 2003's The Black Album is, lyrically, one of the best songs Jay-Z has ever created. If you are looking for one of the greatest 16 bars ever, I would humbly and respectfully direct you to the second verse of that song.

"Grown man, I'll put hands on you. Dig a hole in the desert
Then build the Sands on you. Lay out blueprint plans on you.
We're 'Rat Pack' [brothers]-- Let 'Sam' tap dance on you,
Then, I, 'Sinatra', shot-cha-- God damn you!
I'll put the boy in the box, like David Blaine.
Let the audience watch; it ain't a thing.
Y'all wish I was frontin'. I'll 'George Bush' the button.
For the oil in your car: 'Lift up your hood, [sucker]! Run it!'
Then, lift up your whole hood, like you got oil under it.
Your boy's got the goods. Y'all don't want none of it,
Like castor oil. I'll 'Castor Troy' you;
Change your face, 'fore the bullets change all that for you.
Y'all [suckers] is targets. Y'all are garages
For bullets. Please don't make me park it
In your 'upper level'. I'll valet a couple strays
From the .38 Special-- [sucker], God bless you."

The lyrics were tight, the flow was tight, and the beat by 9th Wonder was exceptional.

If Jay-Z had responded to Nas' "Ether" with this track, Jay-Z would have won that feud.

Gotta give an honorable to Alchemist on his gift to the 'Weight' track - Swollen Members and Ghostface. He absolutely killed this track. He's the last rhyme at about 2:24:

Rap zombie, Im controlled by powers beyond me.
I go from the drum machine straight to the Digi-D,
To the Harddrive to the G5 to the computer screens.
To the lab thru the speakers to the Pens n the pads
To the science to the math to the vocab.
Straight to the phone booth, to the mic,
Back to that O-rap
Thru the speakers,
To the place where your hear and your soul at.
Drop out the drums,
Rough mix straight to the work dat
Bounce the track, disk format and then burn that.
To the CD,
We'll take it to the truck where the systems at,
Make sure the bass hit like a thunderclap.
Then i double back to the lab,
Fast like i was runnin laps.
I freeze! Back to the Digi-D's to an MP3,
Thru the internet freeway,
Straight to the DJ's to the radio, constant airplay.
I gotta keep food on my plate, so im moving that Weight!

Although Alchemist always comes correct, that's one of the greatest by him.

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
"I'm the original rap criminal (yeahhhhh)
My shots, spell spray (hoo-ahhhh) duck leaves my trigger finger digital
My gun'll make, many men, things you did when i get mad
And pissed cause i can make him my target
Braggin em taggin em draggin em mad hollow-point rhymes in my mic
Choose smith or assault over magnum (huh)
So back up off me, here's a clip
For uzis and guns, and then you faggots gonna off me
I'm sure you know the deal that my nine can box
I knock punks out quick like evander holyfield
More rhymes than music's, my solution
Subscribers of my style here's a contribution
Let's say you want a shovel layer parkin mc's like cars
And drivin mc's away
Tanks gon be full, to rappers wanna tempt me
I break the steering shift and leave em empty
Cause they can't go, so i'ma call a hoe tow truck
To come tow truck your weak side show
Back on the scene is the incredible one man team
When i get mad i turn green
The fugitive's gone peace, i'm outta here later
And here's a finger, to all you non movin spectators"

Yeah. Any one of his verses on that track must be considered in the discussion. Plus like you said it was one of the most commercially succesful tracks of all time.
