The 80s music thread

80s music was alot better than late 70s music (punk rock excepted)

R.E.M. - The End of the World As We Know It
Marc Cohn - Walking In Memphis
Traci Chapman - Talkin' Bout a Revolution
Billy Joel - We Didn't Start the Fire

much more my kind of music than your first try, dick :)

musically i grew up in the 80s, those were the years were my "real" taste learns the basics. even if i am much more interested in the music of the 60th and 70th today, i never have turn my back on those years were i start feeling music.

"iron maiden", "rush" and "the police" were my TOP 3 those days.

crossing over to some different bands like "psychedelic furs", "******* joke", "the cult", "sisters of mercy", "u2" and the great "sonic youth", i always loved the energy of tricky heavy metal riff's with powerful drumming. "metallica", "metal church" and of course "slayer" with their first 4 albums are examples from a collection of 300+ heavy metal albums (vinyl) out of this decade. also, i'd loved german pop music in the early 80s ("neue deutsche welle") but not the commercial kind of bands like "nena" (even if she had some nice tracks beyond this to me unlistenable "99 luftballons") or "hubert kah" - i'd loved the more "indie-typeOf" bands like "extrabreit", "ideal" or "nichts". "spliff" and "nina hagen" were kind of faves as well. like today, i've always had a faible for bands which are very different from the standard format.

not many bands of those days are still welcome in my cd-player.

so, to come to an end: if i had to limitate myself to give you 5 songs i'd loved that time (and were important for nearly everything what happens to my ears later on), i would chose:

******* Joke : Eighties.
