Texas House to cheerleaders: Don't shake it

AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) -- Texas lawmakers sent a message to the state's high school cheerleaders Wednesday: no more booty-shaking at the game.

The state's House of Representatives voted 85-55 to approve a bill that would forbid sexy cheers and give the Texas Education Agency authority to punish schools that allow "overtly sexually suggestive" routines at football games and other events.

The proposal must go to the Texas Senate for consideration.

"People are calling and telling me how disgusting it is to see sexually suggestive routines on the part of marching units or cheerleaders," said State Rep. Al Edwards, a Houston Democrat who sponsored the bill.

He complained of cheerleaders "shaking their behinds, breaking it down," but the proposal does not define what constitutes suggestive cheering.

Democratic state Rep. Senfronia Thompson, also of Houston, said the bill was a waste of valuable time.

"I think the Texas Education Agency has enough to do making sure our kids are better educated, and we are wasting our time with 'one two three four, we can't shake it any more?"' Thompson told legislators.

This kinda stuff is not tolerable. I plea tolerance, but not tolerance when it comes to ladies shaking stuff at me. scared.gif

When I was a teenager, I thought everyone in my age group where simular to believes as my friends and i where. I know it kinda sort sighted.

It's to bad the same intolerant people are still running the country.

If a parent don't want there child shaking stuff, don't let them join, they can do that.

Old dudes need to see the young taco.... it's good for them!

I feel sorry for all free minded americans as your country seems to be turning into some conservative hell of religious "family values".Nothing wrong with respecting and caring about your family and ofcourse religious people have their right to believe anything they want -but what`s going on in America today seems to me like you`re turning the clock 150 years backwards when it comes to morality and religions role in society...

Ok,I know this is a bit tense theme and I don`t want to cause any war around here.So all you conservatives out there, don`t mind about me,I`m just an eurosissy who thinks violence is more dangerous than sexy clothes, but hey, that`s just me :)

Oh,btw,I vote our conservative party here, but what`s "conservative" here is like communist hippie or something like that from american religious right wing point of view...

what cheerleading isnt sexually suggestive is my question. Man, even when they are just jumping up and down and yelling go team, the modern male's mind is thinking about what is under her skirt lol

what a stupid law

So cheerleading isn't all that much different from walking down a street...

At my school we had The Cheerleaders and The Poms. The Chreeleaders were more acrobatic, The Poms were about dancing. Anyway once a year they would face off in a game of football (american) called the Powderpuff Bowl. and everybody, male and female, came to watch. It was way more important than watching them shake ther asses, and these girls were HOT.

Our girls were talented and we loved to watch them, and it was not sexual, well it was, but we did'nt watch for that reason. I know for a fact that our Cheeleder/Poms were the sweetest most confident girls at school, and the pothead alcoholic girls were the sluts. Just cause a dirty old Texan gets a funny feeling in his pants when he sees young womans legs, don't mean we have to lose an American tradition. :2 cents:

Another example of how Americans have far too much of everything and really need to appreciate life a bit more and spend less time worrying about things that mean nothing - or next to nothing. No, I think I was right the first time, nothing.

By the way America. Look out. Your big boy on the block status is running out. At China's present rate of growth, they will pass the US GNP in about 30 years. If you want to be the big dogs on the block I'd stop worrying about cheerleaders and start thinking about lowering those trade and budget deficits if I were you.

The way this get shit gets passed is because the schools are GOVERNMENT. The cheerleading squad is a school-sanctioned event, so it's a "school function." All it takes is enough parents to complain and once you get stupid parents involved in a government program, WE ALL LOSE!

That's one of the major reasons I'm AGAINST "government education." Because they can tell you how to live your life, and that's EXACTLY what they do to YOUR KIDS for 14 years of their early lives. Sigh, most parents don't care about education and pay more attention to football in Texas ... but no, a little too much booty and that's all they are concerned with?

BTW, I *KNEW* it wouldn't be long before someone associated GWB with this. Dude, he's fucking up enough on the Federal level that you don't need to demonize him at the local or state level. Chill.

Label this "when stupid, over-protective parents attack" when a "government program" is involved. Sigh, the United States of the Offended, that's what we are.

Oh no, a cheerleader might shake too much booty and that's bad. But if she's proper in school and fucks everyone in the school off school property, that's all that matters from the lawyers. Sigh, no wonder our country is going down the tubes!

I'm serious about this, don't go out-of-your-way to blame Bush for things outside the Federal. It happened during Clinton -- even things in Arkansas both when he was governor and afterwards -- and it will happen after Bush is gone too.

Stupid government schools are tax payer funded and when enough parents bitch, the lawyers run out and scream "we're going to get sued" and they change things. We ALL LOSE because of people who are offended and every stupid school issue doesn't come from the Federal Executive. ;)

i bet the dads were secretly enjoying the cheerleaders... as long as they dont ban cheerleader porn on the internet it isnt SO bad :)

I think it's stupidity by stupid parents who are over-protective of their kids or just want to stir up shit. But the sad thing is that the school has to have a policy -- even if a poorly defined one -- just so the school doesn't get sued, and the tax payers have to foot yet another bill.

Heh, last Prime Minister we had who tried to install "family values" (aka: back to basics) crashed and burned....especially after news broke that he had a four-year extramarital affair with a fellow MP.....:)
