I am not familiar with that forum but if it was about escorts and prostitutes then that is probably the reason why.

Actually they reason given was not because of the US legislation of SESTA & FOSTA (to help combat sex trafficking), but new data laws that are coming into effect in the EU on May 25. The GDPR has very large fines attached to it. And apparently the software that SF ran on was custom built and to be able to meet the requirements it would require a substantial overhaul and the money just wasn't there to support it. SF was a Cypriot registered website so they fell under EU law. Q might have more to offer than I do about SF ownership/management. I do seem to remember that it changed hands at one point while I was a member. (It would have been 8 years for me on June 10th or 15th).

Because even american companies with american based servers have to comply with GDPR if they get EU visitors signing up. It affects everyone.

GDPR is having some pretty wide reaching effects and it hasn't taken effect yet. I'm concerned how small businesses are expected to deal with it.
