Service lets drivers lock in gasoline prices

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The high price of gasoline has some U.S. drivers looking to the future.

A recently introduced service called MyGallons.com allows drivers to fill up their tanks sometime in the future but at current prices, using a debit-like card which banks gallons rather than dollars.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll have to check this one out.

Thanks for the heads up on this. I think I'll check it out too.

Excellent idea!

Now if we can get cars to run on batteries or electric motors...

I heard a radio commercial yesterday that claimed fixed $2.99 per gal fuel.

I don't buy it ! What's in the fine print ?

A poor economy brings out the "best" in some people I'm 'fraid. :(

How much do they want up front is the question ? WARNING ! :nono:

Seems like there must be something in the fine print doesn't it.Hard to see how this could be smart biz otherwise.Isn't Chrysler in an effort to move cars saying they will lock you in at current gas price till 2011 I think it was? That sounds like it could really be them being bankrupt again. They could end up eating several dollars a gallon by then, but who knows what the fine print says.

^ There's this "geeky" guy lol ! on the radio, that I've been listening to for years who does a fine job exposing how the scammers operate, including your own bank, cell phone service provider cable tv provider, full service stock broker etc ! And I Smell A Rat With This "deal".

My favorite question is with the "FDIC Insured" banking . . . Who's gonna underwrite a bankrupt federal govt. ? lol ! (I think) :o

There is no longer a business ethic I'm 'fraid.

What station do you listen to, Facetious? I've never heard of this guy.

I believe I saw with the Chrysler deal that it was only for the first 12K miles per year.

I "DX" (long range monitor) all the way up to Sacto - 650 KSTE
10 to noon - provided that I'm in an area where I can get decent reception.

Every time I listen to this guy I pick up a tip. :D

Dammit, I just missed it. Right now I'm in an area that gets better radio signals from Sacramento and the valley than other areas. I'll have to keep that in mind tomorrow.

Is that $1.45 a gallon or Litre? Must be litres I bet.

3.79 litres equals a gallon so still lots more expensive there.US average is at just about $4.00 a gallon now.

That web site is dealing in oil futures on the commodities market. They will fail in the long run because it’s a very, very risky business. Do you know how to have a million dollars after trading in commodities? Start with two million.

$4.10 is the national average, but where I live we pay at least 50 cents an hour more than that.

I'm "lucky", there is a gas war going on between stations on a local highway. I just got gas for $3.78/gal. The average around here is about $4.00/gallon.

^ An intelligent economist once pointed out -

Have two gas stations located on a given busy, well traveled intersection and prices will tend to be relatively elevated in price, one always a penny different than the other.
Add a third gas station to the same intersection and now we're talking competitive discount pricing ! Instead of chasing the highs (as above), Competitive lows will be challenged :nanner: and that's good for the consumer ;)

Glad that you're having a regional gas war there Senob !!
Now tell me that this "war" is between 2 stations :o :dunno: :D

Nope, the economist is right. In about a 2 mile stretch of highway, there are 5 stations. Two on one side, three on the other. They are all very low priced compared to the rest in the area. Even though it is a divided highway, you can still get to the other side by making a U-turn at an intersection, which keeps them all in competition with each other. The "off-brand" stations are all at $3.78, and the "name-brand" (Exxon, Getty) stations are at $3.79. These prices are a good 20 cents less than any others around. It even made the local news broadcast.
