Still I don't see how you can look at Scientology as any different from other religions other than Scientology's youth. What we know for certain is that the Bible was written by people. Whether or not people think what's written in the Bible is bullshit really has nothing to do with the comparison. Age doesn't lend what's written in the Bible credibility, and what is written in the Bible is no less fantastic than anything Scientology teaches. The reason people don't look at things like burning, speaking bushes and virgin births and resurrections from death as insane is that these teaching have been ingrained and conditioned into our psyche over the course of thousands of years. Hubbard's teachings have not been. Hubbard was probably (definitely, in my view, but...) a crackpot--okay. But that doesn't mean the people who dreamed up the wild content of the Bible were any less of a group of crackpots. So, we have two religions--Christianity and Scientology--that make fantastical claims that were written by people. One is old and one is new. But other than that, where is the difference?
The difference is that Judaism and Christianity are religions that were pieced together throughout an age when there was no science to rival it. People were no different than we are today...they wanted to know the answers to the universe's riddles. Religion provided those answers. Unfortunately, there was no alternative back then.
Scientology, on the other hand, was created during the height of scientific discovery and understanding. It didn't provide answers to common questions; instead it claimed to provide a sacred knowledge based on commitment and loyalty. You learn as you pay. You become more powerful and aware as you pay.
I despise all religion, but with ancient polytheism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam, everything is laid out on the table and its origins were credible at the time. And they were created from tenets of previous belief systems and multiple generations of people; some gullible but good intentioned, some motivated only by self interest, but none by a single man or organization. A far cry from things like Scientology and Mormonism.
There are scriptures in the bible which contend the world was round and suspended from nothing. There are other things as well which went against the sciences of the time. Just saying.

Personally I am an Appliantologist, We believe that sexual gratification can only be achieved with the use of machines.
:spump:
Sometimes? Where have you been? Try all the time.
I don't agree with Scientology, but the government is to stay out of people's religious beliefs and many other things.
As long as they aren't hurting others, they are allowed to do as they please.
ALL religions are bullshit. Or NONE is.
If they just leave me alone they can believe in what they want. If they don´t they have a serious problem.
I´d prefer to say all of em are bullshit, cause of religions we had a bunch of wars on the planet none needs .
In my eyes today´s religions are * power, money, energy * ..and the war´s are * covered * under the * coat * of religion.
^ dude...did you just say Bush invaded Iraq due to religion?
